"I’ve talked to Kalen DeBoer a couple times": Five-star QB Jared Curtis reflects on his Alabama interest after Georgia decommitment

Maliha

Five-star quarterback Jared Curtis listed Alabama football among his top 10 finalists before committing to Georgia in March. After decommitting from the Bulldogs on Thursday, he has once again named the Crimson Tide as one of the schools that “stand out” to him, besides Ohio State, USC, Clemson, Oregon and South Carolina, according to On3 reporter Hayes Fawcett.

The Crimson Tide coaching staff has maintained steady communication with Curtis. Though he hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa this year, he is expected to make the trip soon. The last time Curtis visited Alabama, coach Nick Saban was still leading the program. Now, under Kalen DeBoer, Curtis has expressed interest in reconnecting with the Tide's revamped coaching staff.

Curtis opened up about his relationship with Alabama's coaches, saying (via On3’s Steve Wiltfong):

“I’ve talked to (DeBoer) a couple times on the phone. The OC (Nick Sheridan) I talk to him a lot. I want to get up there for a game and meet the whole coaching staff.”

Alabama's offensive scheme can be an excellent fit for Curtis. The program's current quarterback, Jalen Milroe, has thrived under DeBoer’s system, and it is easy to envision Curtis flourishing in a similar role.

However, Alabama has secured the commitment of five-star quarterback Keelon Russell for the 2025 class, which may complicate Curtis' decision. With two five-star quarterbacks potentially vying for the starting spot, Curtis will have to consider how Alabama's depth chart might impact his path to playing time.

Alabama has one commitment in its 2026 class: four-star cornerback Dorian Barney.

Jared Curtis' junior season performance so far

Jared Curtis has recorded 1857 passing yards and 22 touchdowns along with 395 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns through eight games this season. He also contributed on defense with one fumble recovery.

The signal-caller came to the limelight during his freshman season, when he led Nashville Christian High School (Tennessee) to a Division II-A state runner-up finish. As a sophomore last season, he completed almost 60% of his passes for 2,285 yards and 27 touchdowns, while also running for 481 yards and seven touchdowns.

Jared Curtis is ranked by ESPN as the No. 4 prospect in the nation, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class and the No. 1 recruit in Tennessee.
