"If this kid has any common sense he would come with JuJu": Colorado fans react to QB signee Julian Lewis' teammate entering the CFB transfer portal
The Colorado football community is excited that Julian Lewis' teammate Caleb Odom, a highly-touted five-star wide receiver, has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Odom, a former Alabama standout, was part of the Crimson Tide’s star-studded 2024 recruiting class, which ranked second nationally.
Despite his impressive credentials as the No. 30 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver struggled to find his footing in Tuscaloosa. He finished his freshman season with seven receptions for 65 yards.
The buzz is intensified with speculation about a possible reunion between Odom and his high school teammate, five-star quarterback Julian Lewis. Lewis signed with Colorado, sparking fan enthusiasm on Sunday for what coach Deion Sanders is building in Boulder.
“If this kid has any common sense, he would come with JuJu,” one fan remarked.
"He’d be a great replacement for Will Sheppard as a big bodied receiver."
Here is how other fans expressed their reactions:
"It would definitely help Julian," a fan remarked.
"He could be the next Shep," another remarked.
"He is ight nothing crazy," a fan quipped.
Colorado’s offense, already bolstered by stars like Omarion Miller and Dre Miller, could become even more formidable with Odom’s addition. Odom’s departure from Alabama, where he competed in every game but couldn’t crack the two-deep roster, underscores the depth of the Tide’s receiver corps.
Odom plans to enter the transfer portal alongside teammates like Kobe Prentice and Jahlil Hurley, as the 20-day transfer window opens Monday for college football players.
Julian Lewis chooses Colorado after reclassifying and parting ways with USC
Julian Lewis, one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects, initially committed to USC in August 2023 as part of the Class of 2026. However, his trajectory shifted when he eventually de-committed from USC on Nov. 17, 2024.
Just four days later, Lewis announced his commitment to the University of Colorado, signaling a new chapter under the leadership of coach Deion Sanders.
“It’s a huge opportunity! What Coach Prime has been able to build in two seasons can’t be denied,” Lewis said in a statement. “I’ve had a chance to get to know him and believe that he can further develop me into the player and person that I want to be.
“Coach Shurmur has been an NFL offensive coordinator and head coach, so he understands exactly what’s needed at the next level. Coach Prime is going to play the best player, whether it’s a freshman or a walk-on.”
During his final high school season, Julian Lewis completed 75.8% of his passes for 3,272 yards and 44 touchdowns.
