In Photos: No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa shares snaps from his latest visit to Kevin Young's BYU Cougars
AJ Dybantsa, the top-ranked player in the class of 2025, officially visited one of the potential schools for his commitment, Brigham Young University, on Oct. 11. During his visit, he met the school's new head coach, Kevin Young, who went all out to impress the five-star small forward, organizing a tour that included meetings with Cougars legends and a photo shoot featuring him in BYU gear.
Dybantsa held the photo shoot in the BYU locker room with Utah Prep teammate and potential BYU recruit JJ Mandaquit, who is also an ESPN top 50 player.
According to Dybantsa, the two Utah Prep stars being at BYU at the same time for their official visits was coincidental, and they had not planned a visit together.
The Hurricane, Utah native also took in some college football during his visit, attending a pregame rally with Coach Young before watching the Cougars take on Arizona. BYU won the game 41-19, and a video of BYU fans chanting "We want AJ!" went viral during the event.
Young has been aggressive with his recruitment efforts for AJ Dybantsa, approaching the small forward even before he officially became the new BYU coach. As a result, On3 has ranked BYU as the frontrunner, giving the Cougars a 41.7% chance of securing his commitment.
Young, who has NBA experience most recently as an assistant for the Phoenix Suns, recently worked out with the highly sought-after recruit, imparting some of his knowledge to him. College basketball reporter Adam Zagoria posted a video of that workout on X.
Schools still in contention for AJ Dybantsa
Despite AJ Dybantsa's recent visit to BYU and Coach Young's aggressive recruitment efforts, the five-star small forward is tight-lipped about his final choice.
Several schools have extended offers to him, and he has narrowed the list down to seven choices.
While On3 has ranked BYU at No. 1, other schools are also putting their best foot forward to recruit the Utah Prep star. This includes Kansas State, which has a 25.0% chance of receiving Dybantsa's commitment. In third is Alabama at 13.3% and tied in fourth place are North Carolina, Auburn, USC and Kansas, with each having a 4.2% chance.
AJ Dybantsa is scheduled to announce his decision in February 2025.
