“It's really a 3-headed race”: Coveted 4-star WR Travis Smith offers insight on his recruitment journey
Travis Smith Jr., a highly sought-after four-star wide receiver from Atlanta, Georgia, has emerged as one of the premier offensive recruits for the 2025 class. Smith has narrowed his college choices to three SEC powerhouses: Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.
Auburn, once a strong contender, has now fallen out of Smith’s final selection despite the allure of their offensive scheme and his connections with players like Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson, as well as coach Marcus Davis.
Travis Smith candidly discussed his top three choices.
"I have it narrowed down to three schools. It is really a three-headed race now. Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee are the schools in contention and I am still working to make the final decision between those three," Smith said (via On3).
"All three have a lot I like, and I feel I can be successful at each, so I still have a lot to figure out in the next few days."
Travis Smith added that he will announce his decision on Saturday.
“Saturday will be a tough day for me, but I will be ready when that time comes. I am really working to narrow it down to decide on where I want to be. After more prayers and talks with my family, I will go with my gut."
Travis Smith Jr. weighs his final college choices
Exploring his affinity for Alabama, Smith highlighted the coaching staff's proven track record in Washington.
"This staff had production there and they won. They produced three big-time receivers, Michael Penix was great and I could be in a unique position playing for that staff now at Alabama. Me and coach JaMarcus Shephard have a special connection and he could put me in a good position to be successful."
Regarding Georgia, Travis Smith emphasized his deep-rooted relationships with key figures.
"I have special relationships with Kirby Smart and James Coley. I have extensive relationships with many people at Georgia and their track record with offensive production, yards per game and getting guys drafted has always stood out."
Tennessee's appeal lies in the presence of quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
"Nico Iamaleava is the Tennessee factor. They put Nico with me on my official visit and he is a real factor for me. He is a great player, then they have others like George MacIntyre coming in behind him. They got the last official visit and I got a great understanding about where the program stands."
Ranked as the No. 75 overall prospect and the No. 11 wide receiver in the 2025 class by the On3 Industry Ranking, Travis Smith's decision is highly anticipated. Georgia is currently favored to secure his commitment, according to 247Sports.
