Jeff Brohm's Louisville lands commitment of Trinity kicker Carson Hilbert to the Class of 2025
No. 19 Louisville continued its strong start to the 2024 season, coming off a 31-19 win over Georgia Tech that improved their record to 3-0. The Cardinals now turn their attention to their upcoming matchup against Notre Dame in South Bend this Saturday. Louisville's early-season momentum will face a stern test against the Fighting Irish, who are always formidable at home.
However, Jeff Brohm and his coaching staff received good news off the field this week. Trinity High School kicker Carson Hilbert committed to the Cardinals' 2025 class. The prospect confirmed the news on X/Twitter, tagging Brohm and special team coordinator Karl Maslowski.
Back in October, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound All-State kicker revealed that he had always been a "Louisville fan" since he was a kid and also enlisted the Cardinals as his "dream school" besides Michigan. The Cardinals entered the race for the in-state prospects by extending a scholarship to him on June 23. They also offered him a preferred walk-on spot earlier this year.
In an interview with Cardinal Authority, Hilbert expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity:
"This is very exciting to receive the offer from Louisville. I have always been a fan living here my whole life and have been to lots of Louisville games. It is special with Coach Brohm now and I really enjoy working with Coach Maslowski. Very excited for this opportunity."
Besides Louisville, Carson also made game-day visits to Michigan, Kentucky, Florida State and Notre Dame, while also visiting Ohio State and Alabama.
Football talent runs in the Hilbert family as Carson’s father, Jon Hilbert, was a standout kicker for Louisville in the late 1990s. The former Cardinals star set a school record for extra points in a season and even enjoyed a stint in the NFL, where he famously kicked a game-winner for the Dallas Cowboys.
Carson will look to follow in his father’s footsteps with Louisville. The program's 2025 class also holds commitments of promising players like edge rusher C.J. May, quarterback Mason Mims and wide receiver Jordan Allen.
Carson Hilbert's athletic profile
Through five games this season, Carson Hilbert has connected on 5-of-7 field goal attempts and made 13-of-14 extra-point tries. His consistency isn't new, as he was flawless on 36 PATs last year, converting all of them. Hilbert's performance was crucial in helping Trinity High School win the Kentucky 6A Championship, where he converted 12-of-14 field goals and was perfect on 57 extra points.
Besides his kicking duties, Hilbert averaged 41.2 yards per punt over 52 attempts last season while logging 69 touchbacks on 86 kickoffs. His father, Jon Hilbert, lauded Carson's strong mindset and leg power as keys to his success, noting that mental toughness is crucial for a kicker.
Despite his accomplishments, Carson Hilbert remains unranked by major recruiting channels. With his combination of punting and kicking skills, he has the potential to play both roles for Louisville.
