Liam McNeeley High School stats: Looking at early career of UConn's highest-ranked prospect since 2011
After summer practices with the UConn Huskies, Liam McNeeley is ready to start his freshman year under Dan Hurley. McNeeley who was ranked No. 11 in the Class of 2024, became UConn's highest-ranked recruit since they recruited four-time NBA rebounding champion Andre Drummond in 2011.
McNeeley committed to the Huskies on Apr. 26, after playing for three high schools: Pearce (Richardson, Texas), then John Paul II (Plano, Texas) and finally at Montverde Academy in Florida.
In his senior year, Liam McNeeley scored 12.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for Montverde. He played alongside ESPN No. 1 recruit Cooper Flagg (Duke), No. 8 Derik Queen (Maryland), No. 13 Asa Newell (Georgia), No. 24 Robert Wright III (Baylor) and No. 42 Curtis Givens (LSU).
The 6-foot-7 small forward also represented Montverde in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference, posting averages of 13.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 1.2 steals.
McNeeley was selected for the 2024 McDonald's All-American Game and the 2024 Jordan Brand Classic. While representing Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship, he averaged 5.7 ppg and 5.0 rpg and won the gold medal against Argentina.
UConn coach Dan Hurley talked about the improvements McNeeley needed to make in a YouTube video posted by Storrs Central (Timestamp: 7:02):
"Liam, it's been obviously lots of adjustments (especially on defense). But he's really an advanced, mature offensive player. By the time we start playing, I think he's going to be a consistent player this year."

Liam McNeeley native had 23 offers before choosing the Huskies. He had offers from top programs including Indiana, Kansas, Texas, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Alabama and LSU.
ESPN gave him a 93 Scout Grade, and he was rated as a five-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals and On3.
In a video posted by the UConn men's basketball social media team, Liam McNeeley talked about his background:
“My biggest mentors were my grandfather and my mother. They taught me to play basketball and helped me develop my love for the game. I’ll be the fourth generation to go Division I (in my family). … I do carry a sense of pride around that. Continuing my family’s legacy, I wear my mom’s number that she wore in college (No. 30).”
