Luke Fickell's Wisconsin lands commitment of 4-star QB Carter Smith to the class of 2025
Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback from Fort Myers, Florida, announced his commitment to Wisconsin on Sunday, Nov. 24. The 6-foot-3 quarterback was sitting on offers from top programs such as Michigan, Florida, Penn State and Miami among others, but chose the Badgers over all of them.
Smith was at the school last weekend for the Badgers' game against the Oregon Ducks. The quarterback's father, Dan Smith, talked about his son's commitment to Wisconsin and had high praise for the game-day atmosphere at the Badgers' home stadium.
"The staff was able to squeeze in everything we wanted to see in this very short window, can’t say enough about them," Dan said, as per On3. "We had a great conversation with Coach Fickell. The atmosphere last night was like something I’ve never seen before and I’ve been to some pretty crazy venues."
In his final high school season, Carter Smith completed 60.9% of his passes for 1,386 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions while playing in 10 games. He has a quarterback rating of 98.6 and has also accumulated 632 rushing yards on 109 carries and has scored 12 touchdowns.
Carter Smith becomes the Wisconsin Badgers' 25th commitment
The Wisconsin Badgers landed their 25th commitment on Sunday in the form of four-star quarterback Carter Smith. The Bishop Verat quarterback joined the likes of four-star linebacker Mason Posa, four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams and four-star offensive tackle Logan Powell.
Wisconsin's Class of 2025 is currently ranked No. 21 in the country, as per 247Sports. It has been a slight improvement for the Luke Fickell-led side from last season when their class was ranked 25th in the country. They only managed to land 22 commitments last year.
The Badgers are having a tough season presently. They hold a losing record of 5-6 as of Nov. 24 and are pretty much out of the playoff contention. After starting the season with 5-2, the Badgers have lost four in a row, including their Nov. 24 game against Nebraska.
Acquiring talented recruits such as Carter Smith will help them improve their squad for the future as they will hope to be more competitive next year.
The four-star quarterback is ranked No. 203 nationally and is the 15th-best QB in the Class of 2025, as per On3. He is also the 27th-best overall recruit from the state of Florida.
