"Michigan is one of the top schools in the country": Elite Washington LB commit keeping his options open after Wolverines offer

Three-star linebacker Wassie Lugolobi committed to Washington back in Nov. 10, but schools keep pursuing him. He received his latest offer from Michigan on Friday and is eager to explore what Sherrone Moore's program has to offer:

"Michigan is one of the top schools in the country and has both academics and an incredible football program," Lugolobi said.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound standout completed a phenomenal junior season at Eastside Catholic High School in Washington this year. Whether attacking up the middle or off the edge, he played a big role in helping lead the Crusaders to the 3A state tournament semifinals. This elite performance secured him the 3A Metro Co-Defensive Player of the Year title, while also earning him recognition as a second-team All-American.

Lugolobi is the No. 43 linebacker in the 2026 class, the No. 4 recruit in the State of Washington and the No. 508 prospect in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He is one of six committed players in Washington’s 2026 class, which ranks No. 20 in the nation.

Can Michigan flip Wassie Lugolobi from Washington?

Wassie Lugolobi has been committed to Washington for over two months. As an in-state recruit, the chance to play alongside former teammates and in front of his family made choosing the Huskies an easy decision over programs like Colorado, Arizoana State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Louisville and Tennessee.

However, Lugolobi's commitment now seems less certain as new offers from programs like Michigan continue to roll in.

"I'm committed to Washington right now," Lugolobi told 247Sports earlier this month. "I think with how the college football world is so unsteady with coordinators leaving and coaches leaving, I kinda have to keep my options open until signing day. When schools come, I want to hear their pitches and hear what they have to say."

Sherrone Moore and his coaching staff have made splashes in the recruitment world by adding multiple blue-chip prospects in the 2025 class. In the 2026 class, Michigan has two commits so far: cornerback Brody Jennings and wide receiver Jaylen Pile. With Moore's staff actively visiting potential recruits, Lugolobi is a name to watch.
