Na'eem Offord commitment: 3 teams that can target five-star plus prospect in the Class of 2025
Na'eem Offord, a five-star cornerback in the Class of 2025, announced his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Feb. 4. He chose the Buckeyes over programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Miami and Tennessee.
As signing day approaches, multiple teams are in contention to flip the five-star recruit's commitment. Offord revealed that Oregon and Auburn, along with Ohio State, are the programs most likely to land him.
Let's take a look at all these three programs and their chances of signing the talented defenseman.
3 teams that can target five-star plus prospect Na'eem Offord
#3 Ohio State
Despite Na'eem Offord's commitment to Ohio State, the program is believed to be on the verge of losing the talented cornerback. He hasn't visited the program since February, which was before he announced his commitment.
Multiple other programs are now in the running to acquire the 6-foot-1 athlete. However, Offord is still committed to Ryan Day and that bodes well for the Ohio-based school.
Ohio State's Class of 2025 is one of the best in the country. According to 247Sports, it is ranked No. 2 nationally, only behind Georgia. The Buckeyes have landed 25 recruits, including three five-star prospects, and they will hope to hold onto Offord's pledge.
#2 Oregon
The Oregon Ducks are in hot pursuit of Na'eem Offord despite his commitment to the Buckeyes. The five-star cornerback from Birmingham, Alabama, has included the Ducks in his final shortlist.
Offord was in Eugene to watch the Ducks defeat the Buckeyes, the program he is committed to, on Oct. 13. On3's Steve Wiltfong believes that the Buckeyes will face an uphill battle from Oregon to land the talented defenseman.
"I ultimately think it will be tough for Ohio State to hold onto Na’eem Offord," Wiltfong said, as per On3. "Oregon is certainly heavy-handed in this recruitment. He’s been out there a couple of times, and Dan Lanning is maybe their favorite coach of the entire process."
The Ducks' Class of 2025 is currently ranked No. 8 in the country, as per 247Sports. They have landed 16 commitments so far, including three five-star prospects.
#1 Auburn
Auburn has created a lot of noise in Na'eem Offord's recruitment this year. The five-star defenseman has visited the Tigers the most during his recruitment process and will be at the school for a fifth time this weekend.
His last visit to Auburn was earlier this month, on Nov. 2, during the Tigers' showdown against Vanderbilt. He spoke about the program after the game and had high praise for the team's secondary coach, Wesley McGriff.
"For him to come in and be a big time impact player, it showed me a lot," Offord said, as per On3. "It showed that Coach Crime (Wesley McGriff) is a good coach and knows how to coach his players and develop you."
Aurburn's Class of 2025 is the fifth-best recruiting class in the country, as per 247Sports. The Tigers have landed 27 commitments so far and will hope to add Offord to that list.
