4-star center Tommy Ahneman commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame continues adding to its top-ranked recruiting class with the commitment of 4-star center Tommy Ahneman: Reports

Notre Dame basketball has added its fourth commitment, which is in the name of Tommy Ahneman. The Cretin Derham Hall big man stands 6'11", weighs 252 pounds and can play under the basket on either side of the court.

Ahneman received four stars from On3 and 247Sports and a three-star rating from Rivals. The West Fargo, North Dakota native confirmed his commitment through an Instagram post:

"4⭐️ Tommy Ahneman has just announced his commitment to Notre Dame!!☘️ @tommy.ahneman.The 6’10” forward also had Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Iowa in his final five👀", the post was captioned.

Ranked at the 16th spot in his position, Ahneman was named North Dakota's Gatorade Player of the Year. He also won the Class 2A State Championship with Sheyenne High School before transferring to St. Paul private school. Last season, he averaged a double-double with 20.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest.

He also participated in the Nike EYCL (secondary league to Nike's EYBL) in this summer's AAU season, scoring 20.7 points, and grabbed 8.1 rebounds per game. Tommy Ahneman talked about why he chose Notre Dame and stated that one of the main reasons was the "great atmosphere:"

“I chose Notre Dame because of what they have — a great atmosphere, great people and a great recruiting class that I now get to be a part of,” Ahneman told On3.

247Sports and On3.com ranks Ahneman No. 106 and No. 58 nationally, respectively. He is unranked on ESPN but Rivals rank him as a three-star who is No. 20 in his position.

What does Tommy Ahneman's recruitment mean for Notre Dame?

Notre Dame now has four commitments in the 2025 class. Before Ahneman, five-star Jalen Haralson (La Lumiere School), four-star Ryder Frost (Phillips Exeter School) and four-star Brady Koehler (Cathedral) had committed to the Fighting Irish.

Ahneman will provide a notable presence under the rim. Last season, the Fighting Irish finished with a 13-20 record and 7-13 in the ACC. It was head coach Micah Shrewsberry's first season.

In the ACC Tournament, they entered as the 12th seed and shifted past the 13th seed Georgia Tech. However, they lost to fifth-seed Wake Forest in the second round and were knocked out.

With four commitments this season, Shrewsberry will look to improve the team. How far do you think Notre Dame will go in the upcoming season?
