Ohio State loses the commitment of 4-star EDGE London Merritt who visited Coach Prime's Colorado earlier this month
Four-star edge rusher, London Merritt, announced his de-commitment from the Ohio State Buckeyes amidst rumors of him joining the Colorado Buffaloes. Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes are currently the favorites to land the commitment of Merritt, as per On3.
Merritt pledged his allegiance to the Buckeyes in March. However, he kept his options open and took visits to multiple programs since then, including North Carolina and Colorado. He took a visit to the Buffaloes' campus in Boulder in October and was in the school again for their win over the Utah Utes on Nov.16.
Amidst all the interest from Colorado, the four-star edge decided to decommitt from Ohio State and shared the news via his X account.
"After much careful consideration, I’ve decided to respectfully recommit from the Ohio State University," Merritt wrote on Twitter. "This was not an easy decision, as I have immense respect for Coach Johnson, Coach Day, and the coaching staff."
"I want to express my sincere gratitude, support and belief you have shown in me throughout the recruiting process. The Ohio State University is an outstanding institution, and I will always appreciate the opportunity to have been a part of such prestigious program."
London Merritt is ranked No.260 in the country and is ranked No. 30 at his position, as per On3. He is also the No. 37-ranked prospect from the state of Florida.
Colorado in the race to land four-star recruit London Merritt
After his decommitment from the Ohio State Buckeyes, four-star edge rusher, London Merritt is now on Deion Sanders' radar. The Colorado Buffaloes have been in pursuit of the talented defenseman and with the Buckeyes out of the way, they will look to acquire him.
Colorado hosted Merritt during their game against the Utah Utes on Nov.16. The Buffaloes put on a show for the onlookers as well as the handful of recruits that were present for the game. Sanders and company demolished the Utes 49-24 en route to winning their eighth game of the season.
Merritt has accumulated 23 total tackles and one sack in eight games played this season for the IMG Academy. He has been an integral part of the Ascenders' 7-2 season and will hope to take this form to whichever team he goes to next year.
