"Oklahoma fans aren't ready for this chaos": CFB fans react to elite 4-star LB decommitting from Brent Venables' Oklahoma Sooners

Jonathan Hatton Jr., a four-star running back from San Antonio, Texas, took a U-turn from his pledge to the Oklahoma Sooners on Monday. He has been committed to the Sooners since October 2023 but has opted to consider alternative options after receiving offers from prominent programs.

Hatton has offers from Ohio State, Baylor, Texas A&M, Houston, Oregon, Tennessee, USC and Auburn. He has a lot of time to decide and will take visits to programs from all across the country. The 2026 rusher is trending towards the Aggies, according to On3, as they have a 95.8% chance of landing him.

On3 Recruits shared the news of Hatton's decommitment on X. It created a lot of buzz among CFB fans. Several fans took shots at Brent Venables & Co. for not being able to hold onto Hatton's commitment.

"Oklahoma fans aren't ready for this chaos, but the rest of us are," one fan said.
"What’s going on in Oklahoma City?" another fan commented.
"Woah! Complete chaos in Norman! WHAT is going on????" another fan wrote.

Some fans called it a smart move and wished him well for his future.

"Extremely intelligent decision for your future young man," one fan wrote.
"Phenomenal choice young man," another fan wrote.
"Not surprising. Best wishes to him," another fan commented.

Oklahoma's Class of 2026 is ranked No. 29 in the country, as per 247Sports. The Sooners have already landed a couple of commitments in the form of Jaden O'Neal and Ryder Mix. Jonathan Hatton was the program's first commitment, but will now explore other schools going forward.

Jonathan Hatton Jr. talks about his decommitment from the Oklahoma Sooners

Jonathan Hatton spoke about his decision to back off from his pledge and also shed light on his future plans.

"I’ve been thinking about this for a little while, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t rush my decision," the four-star prospect told On3. "The main reason I decommitted was to make sure I’m putting myself in the best possible position to be successful.
"I plan on taking some visits, but only to schools where I’m a real priority, not to a place that views me as just another number. I’ll be making my announcement around spring/summer next year because I’m a December guy."

Jonathan Hatton is ranked No. 55 in the country and is the fifth-best running back in the Class of 2026, as per On3. He is also the sixth-best overall recruit from the state of Texas.
