Oregon Ducks Recruiting: Dan Lanning set to host 2025 class 4-star QB target; aiming for a flip from Cal
As Oregon prepares for the future of its quarterback room, coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein are aggressively pursuing top talent. With star quarterback Dillon Gabriel expected to enter the NFL draft, Oregon is looking to secure more depth at the position.
One of the primary targets is Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, a standout quarterback from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, who is currently committed to Cal. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Sagapolutele is set to visit Eugene on October 26 when the Ducks take on No. 20 Illinois.
Oregon extended an offer to the Hawaii native in late September, and since then, both the Ducks and Georgia Bulldogs have been vying for his attention. Georgia, led by head coach Kirby Smart, only recently sent an offer to Sagapolutele on October 21.
Sagapolutele, currently ranked as the No. 1 prospect in Hawaii by On3, has expressed his admiration for Oregon's football program:
“It’s a great opportunity and I’m very blessed by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! They [Oregon] produce great talent every year... They make NFL products every year. Just the offense is great as well!”
Oregon is also targeting other top quarterbacks, including Alabama commit Keelon Russell, UCLA commit Madden Iamaleava, and SMU commit Ty Hawkins, as the team continues to strengthen the roster for future seasons.
Sagapolutele gaining attention from Oregon, Georgia, and Utah
Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, the talented quarterback from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, committed to Cal in July but has since drawn interest from powerhouse programs like Oregon, Georgia, and Utah.
Before committing to Cal, Sagapolutele took official visits to Boise State and Oregon State. His performance in events like Elite 11 boosted his profile, catching the attention of schools like Georgia and Oregon.
The Ducks' offer, in particular, meant a lot to Sagapolutele due to his admiration for former Oregon quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Dillon Gabriel.
“It’s a blessing to receive and offer from Oregon, a powerhouse," Sagapolutele said. "It’s surreal. Jake Kaneda Facetime’d me and I talked to coach Will Stein. It was a great feeling. He was saying they got word from the head man to offer me and love my film and want to get me on a visit."
Sagapolutele emphasized his connection to Oregon’s quarterback legacy, saying:
“I grew up watching Marcus, of course," he added. "And Dillon Gabriel is my favorite quarterback of all time. I tried to pattern my game after him. I’ve watched him since I was young. To have an opportunity like this, it’s crazy to me.”
Oregon has pursued Sagapolutele since the offer in September, now securing an official campus visit.
"Being able to get on the phone with Coach Dan Lanning, Coach Will Stein, is actually just really a blessing 'cause Oregon’s been my dream school ever since I was young," Sagapolutele told ScoopDuck.
During his junior year at James Campbell High School, Sagapolutele threw for 3,757 yards, racking up 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His sophomore season saw him accumulate 3,522 passing yards, with 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, along with seven rushing touchdowns.
