Philadelphia 76ers' Eric Gordon reveals his "Air Jordan to Eric Gordon" moment against Michael Jordan's son in high school
Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard Eric Gordon played his high school basketball at North Central High School in Indiana. The NBA veteran, one of the best players in his class, announced his commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers in October 2006.
Gordon is also one of the few players to get the better of the legendary Michael Jordan. He made that possible through Jordan's two sons, Marcus Jordan and Jeffrey Jordan. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard revealed his "Air Jordan to Eric Gordon" moment on Jeff Teague's podcast Club 520.
"I was like, okay, every time when I get the ball, if I don’t have a catch and shoot, I’m going down, I’m taking it to the rack, like every time. Or I’m going to at least try to dunk, but the main thing that I really wanted was to do one of Jordan’s dunks in-game," Gordon said on the podcast.
Gordon did so against Marcus and Jeffrey's team in 2007, in front of Michael Jordan. Even Teague thought that it was "disrespectful," albeit not in a negative way.
The Indiana native's dunk only reinforced his skills as he established himself as one of the best high school players in the country. Gordon saw the film on Loyola Academy and realized that the team "revolved around the Jordan kids" and that their "team was small," which helped him attack the rim consistently.
Eric Gordon's epic performance against the Jordan Kids on national television
The Jordan kids, Marcus and Jeffrey, played for one of the best high school teams in the country, Loyola Academy. ESPN broadcasted three of their games, including their showdown against Eric Gordon's North Central High School.
The game, which was on national television, saw Gordon and North Central dominate the Loyola Academy, winning 88-47. The current Philadelphia 76er had a terrific game, scoring 43 points and grabbing five rebounds, going 17-25 from the field. The Jordan kids, meanwhile, combined for a measly eight points.
Gordon punctuated his team's win by reverse dunking the ball late in the fourth quarter ala Michael Jordan, in front of the GOAT himself. Eric Gordon went on to play for the Indiana Hoosiers for one season and averaged 20.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
The North Central alum was selected seventh overall by the LA Clippers in the 2008 NBA Draft. Since then, he has been a consistent scoring option in some of the best teams of the last decade in the league.
