"Probably the smartest football mind I’ve been around": Servite HC Chris Reinert on legendary New Orleans Saints head coach
Servite High School's head coach, Chris Reinert has learned the trade from some of the best coaches in the history of the game. He spoke very highly about one of them, former New Orleans Saints coach, Jim Mora.
Mora was the Saints' head coach for 10 years, from 1986 to 1996. He lead the team in 167 regular season games, which resulted in 93 victories. He was awarded the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 1987. Reinert talked about his time with Mora during his college coaching days.
"Jim Mora, twice. Rick Neuheisel, twice. Mike Leach, Herm Edwards and Karl Dorrell," Reinert told Tarek Fattal on CIF Southern Section Sitdown. "Jim Mora, probably the smartest football mind I've been around, in organization, preparation and all of the different details of football, like amazing."
Reinert joined the Servite Friars as head coach in 2023. In his first season, he led the team to a record of 8-6 and reached the CIF Southern Section Division 2 finals. So far this season, the Friars are 6-2 through eight games and are one of the best teams in California.
Chris Reinert's Servite suffer a defeat against St. John Bosco on Friday
Chris Reinert's Servite High School Friars took on the St. John Bosco Braves on Friday, October 18 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The Friars suffered a 27-17 defeat at the hands of the state rivals and dropped to 6-2 for the season.
Servite took the lead early, scoring the game's first touchdown. However, the Braves came roaring back and tied the game in the first quarter. The Braves slowly took control of the game and handed the Friars a 10-point loss.
Braves' freshman quarterback, Koa Malau'ulu, was the star of the show, completing 17 of 25 pass attempts for 241 yards and scoring three touchdowns. It was only his second start of the season and will hope to build on this in the coming games.
St. John Bosco's next game is away against the No.1 ranked team in the country, Mater Dei. It will be a showdown between the top two teams in the country.
The Friars on the other hand will look to bounce back in the next game against the Orange Lutheran Lancers from Orange, California. The Lancers are also 6-2 this season and it will be another tough test for Chris Reinert and his team.
