"Ready to work": Five-star QB Deuce Knight FaceTimes Hugh Freeze after making it official with Auburn
Five-star quarterback Deuce Knight, from George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi, officially signed with Auburn on early signing day on Wednesday. He made his commitment public during a ceremony at his high school, where he was joined by family members all sporting Auburn gear.
Knight entered the ceremony in style, donning an orange and blue Auburn letterman jacket, a white turtleneck and a jewel-encrusted necklace featuring his jersey number, No. 2.
After signing his National Letter of Intent, he FaceTimed Auburn coach Hugh Freeze and later expressed his excitement on X, writing:
"Ready to work!! @CoachHughFreeze."
Knight has had a phenomenal high school career by splitting time between George County and Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Despite missing four games this season due to a hamstring injury, he proved his dual-threat ability by throwing for 2,082 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 450 yards and nine scores.
Deuce Knight follows two five-star prospects in Auburn's 2025 class: defensive lineman Malik Autry and edge rusher Jared Smith.
Deuce Knight shares his experience of signing with Auburn
For the second consecutive recruiting cycle, Auburn has secured a blue-chip quarterback, this time with the signing of Deuce Knight in the 2025 class. Following the commitment of four-star quarterback Walker White last year, Knight now holds the distinction of being the highest-rated quarterback Auburn has ever signed in the recruiting-site era, according to 247Sports.
The Mississippi native was committed to Notre Dame for several months before flipping his commitment to Auburn in October. He was also heavily linked with Ole Miss for the last few days. After officially signing with Auburn, he explained the difficulty of his choice.
“It was tough,” Knight told AL. “I didn’t finally make a decision until last night. I talked with my family, and I just felt most comfortable at Auburn. The relationships I built with that staff, it just ultimately led me to decide to go to Auburn.”
Knight finished as one of the highest-rated quarterback recruits in Mississippi and can excel as both a runner and a passer. He is also a decorated track and field athlete, boasting state championships in both the high jump and long jump.
