Ryan Day's Ohio State offers scholarship to rising sophomore running back to the Class of 2027

Maliha

Running back Elijah Kimble is slowly becoming one of the most promising sophomores in the nation and was in attendance during Ohio State's 45-0 win against Purdue on Saturday. He then received an offer from Ryan Day's program.

Kimble was offered by Ohio State running back coach Carlos Locklyn, and he shared the news on X:

"#AGTG..After a Great GameDay visit and Conversation with @Locklyn33 I'm Blessed to receive an Offer from The Ohio State @OhioStateFB @TonyJCoach @markpantoni @ryandaytime @RivalsFriedman @Birm @TomLoy247 @adamgorney @alexgleitman @LettermenRow @On3sport #GOBUCKS 🌰."

Kimble, who plays for the Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York, has been a standout player from an early age. He earned his first scholarship offer from Oregon last year, followed by offers from Penn State, Syracuse, and Buffalo. This year, he has continued to draw attention from major programs and secured offers from UTSA, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Marshall, Toledo, Purdue and Michigan.

Through the first nine games of the season, the sophomore has rushed for 1,211 yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging 134.6 yards per game. He has recorded 31 receiving yards as well, while also contributing on defense with 13 tackles (nine solo, five assists), three interceptions and a pass defensed.

One of his standout performances came during a 31-6 win over Erie on Oct. 19, where he rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

Despite his standout performance and offers from top-tier schools, Kimble remains unranked by major recruiting services like On3, 247 Sports, ESPN and Rivals. However, given his explosive sophomore season, it's only a matter of time before he comes to the national limelight and earns a high ranking.

Elijah Kimble opens up about Ohio State offer

Elijah Kimble is still early in his recruitment, but the offer from Ohio State was a big one for him. Speaking with 247 Sports, Kimble shared his excitement about the offer:

"The offer means a lot. This is the big one I was waiting for considering I've already visited twice prior to this."

Besides Kimble, Ohio State also sent scholarships to several running backs in the 2027 class, including four-star prospects like Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Alabama), Landen Williams-Callis (Richmond, Texas), Amarri Irvin (Bradenton, Florida) and Brayden Tyson (Snellville, Georgia).

The Buckeyes also offered unranked sophomore running backs like Mikel Stephen, Tyson Robinson, David Gabriel Georges, Jakoby Dixon and Noah Roberts.
