“Scared of a little competition”: CFB fans react as Notre Dame QB commit Deuce Knight sets official visit to Auburn

Notre Dame's four-star quarterback commit, Deuce Knight, remains a hot topic of conversation. Although Knight committed to Notre Dame on September 18, 2023, Auburn is aggressively pursuing the quarterback.

The speculation surrounding a potential flip has intensified as Knight is scheduled to visit Auburn on August 31 for the Tigers' season opener against Alabama A&M, according to Steve Wiltfong of On3.

Knight solidified his standing as a top recruit after an impressive junior season in which he threw for over 3,000 yards and notched 30 touchdowns. He is now exploring his options. His decision to visit Auburn, a program with a storied football tradition, has sparked strong reactions from fans.

On social media, some have questioned his motives, with one fan suggesting:

"Feels like Deuce Knight is scared of a little competition with CJ Carr,"

while another commented:

"Why would any QB wanna go to Auburn?"

Here is how other fans are reacting:

"Because JuJu ain't going to Auburn," a fan said
"I know the family and it’s almost a done deal that he will flip to Auburn prior to the start of season." a fan remarked

Wiltfong notes that Knight's growing interest in playing for an SEC program, notably Auburn and Ole Miss, has kept both schools in the race. Knight has developed strong ties with Auburn's coach, Hugh Freeze.

As the recruiting saga continues, there’s speculation Knight could switch his commitment before the end of August. Should Auburn successfully flip Knight, it would significantly boost its recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 5 nationally by 247Sports.

Auburn visit looms as Deuce Knight nears final decision

Deuce Knight, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback, continues to intrigue college football fans. According to 247Sports' Tom Loy, Knight has confirmed he will visit Auburn for their season opener against Alabama A&M on August 31.

Loy explains:

"Knight has seen everything he needs from Notre Dame and Ole Miss. This trip is about evaluating Auburn. He wants to finalize his decision in the coming weeks."

Knight's recruitment has been challenging to predict. While he remains committed to Notre Dame, Auburn and Ole Miss remain in contention. Auburn, in particular, appears to be making a strong push to flip Knight’s commitment before National Signing Day on December 4.

With a vertical leap exceeding 42 inches, Deuce Knight combines athleticism with a strong arm, making him one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the nation. During the 2023 season, Knight completed 103 of 199 passes (51.8%) for 1,607 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions.
