SMU Mustangs Recruiting: 4-star PF Nigel Walls commits to Andy Enfield's 2025 recruiting class

SMU has a new power forward as On3's Joe Tipton confirmed on Saturday that four-star prospect Nigel Walls is going to be a Mustang. The Houston St. Francis Episcopal star chose SMU over TCU and Auburn.

With Nigel Walls committing to the Mustangs, SMU is getting the No. 57 overall recruit in the class of 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which also lists him as the No. 11 power forward and No. 6 recruit from Texas.

Walls spoke with On3 and revealed that he felt a connection with Mustangs head coach Andy Enfield and his staff. They also indicated they would let him be a point forward as he had always been with his high school team, Houston St. Francis Episcopal.

“I chose SMU because of the coaching staff and the connection between them and the program felt right," he told On3. "Coach Enfield really emphasized my shooting and his ability to turn me into an elite shooter and him telling me about how he will develop me.
"Just how he saw the game and taught it to his team just really stuck with me. And coach Capko going through their film and my own film telling me how I would fit in their system and what I need to work on to get to that next level.”

He then released a message for all the SMU Mustangs fans out there.

“Y’all are getting a winner. Can’t wait to be apart of the Hilltop. Pony Up!"

On3's Jamie Shaw described Walls as a "good straight-line athlete" who can produce both offensively and defensively. He is good in transition and has "a lot of natural raw tools that are appealing at the highest levels."

However, he still needs some work, including his balance and footwork, though he is consistent on his release and has a good range.

SMU Mustangs now have three 4-star prospects after Nigel Walls commitment

Coach Andy Enfield has been quite successful with his recruitment from the class of 2025 so far, as SMU has gotten three four-star prospects already. Not only do they have Nigel Walls' commitment, but also Dynamic Prep standouts, Jaden Toombs and Jermaine O'Neal Jr., the latter being the son of former NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal.

On3 ranks Toombs as the No. 45 recruit overall, while O'Neal Jr. is the No. 111. All three are also Texas natives, with the two Prolific Prep stars coming from Dallas and Nigel Walls from Houston, which means that they are staying in their home state for college.
