"So committing to Colorado drops you apparently": CFB fans react to Colorado’s Julian Lewis' rankings in list ft. Bryce Underwood and Keelon Russell

The latest quarterback rankings for the Class of 2025 from 247Sports have sparked debate, especially regarding Julian Lewis’ placement. Despite his status as a five-star recruit, the Colorado commit landed at No. 9—a drop that has surprised many fans. Bryce Underwood, an LSU commit, holds the top spot, followed by Ohio State-bound Tavein St. Clair.

Lewis, who previously ranked as high as No. 2 by 2025 ESPN 300, recently flipped his commitment from USC to Colorado, signing with the Buffaloes on Dec. 4. His ranking drop has drawn mixed reactions online. One fan quipped:

“So committing to Colorado drops you apparently,”

While another added:

“Seven of these guys will probably transfer twice, lmao.”

The 6-foot, 186-pound standout from Carrollton, Georgia, boasts an impressive high school career. Over 42 games, Lewis threw for 11,010 yards and 144 touchdowns.

As a freshman, he passed for 4,118 yards, tallying 48 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. Carrollton went 14-1 that season but fell short in the 7A state championship against Mill Creek.

Lewis maintained his excellence as a sophomore, throwing for 48 touchdowns while limiting his interceptions to just two. That year, he amassed 3,094 passing yards and led his team to an 11-2 record, ending their run in the quarterfinals.

After reclassifying, Lewis capped off his high school career this season with 3,465 passing yards, 46 touchdowns, and five interceptions, adding two rushing scores. Carrollton finished 14-1 again, this time losing the 6A state title to Grayson.

Deion Sanders praises Colorado’s new QB Julian Lewis as a “leader and winner”

Colorado coach Deion Sanders has expressed immense excitement about the addition of the five-star quarterback, Lewis.

“Shedeur has been exceptional for us. He has a supportive father who knows the game and is deeply involved,” Sanders explained, adding, “I saw a lot of similarities in the way Julian’s life has been structured, speaking to his father multitude of times, understanding how he came up, what he wants out of life, what he wants out of the game, and from the game, and what he gives to the game. The similarities are unbelievable.”

For Sanders, selecting quarterbacks extends beyond talent. He looks for leaders with winning mindsets.

“We want players like Jimmy Horn and LaJohntay Wester—guys who excel and fit into the program,” Sanders said, adding, “He’s everything that we desire in a quarterback. He’s smart, he could throw, make, every throw. He has pocket awareness, pocket presence. He is a darn leader, but most of all, he’s a winner. People forget that category when you look at the quarterback."

Julian Lewis’ high school record is extraordinary, finishing with 11,010 passing yards and 144 touchdowns. His performance ranks seventh and fifth in Georgia’s history, respectively.
