"They've been wanting me to come back": Five-star Alabama WR commit Caleb Cunningham reflects on upcoming Ole Miss visit
Five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham continues to state that he is 100% committed to Alabama, but that doesn’t stop other programs from pursuing him. The standout from Choctaw County High School in Ackerman, Mississippi has been committed to the Crimson Tide since July, but he is still taking visits to other college programs.
Cunningham will visit Oxford on Saturday for an unofficial visit to Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss when the No. 18 Rebels host Oklahoma.
When asked about his upcoming visit to Ole Miss, Cunningham mentioned the bond he has built with the Rebels' coaching staff.
"It's the relationships I have with the coaches," Cunningham said (via Inside the Rebels. "Plus, I just felt it was time to go check them out and see what they're going to do. But it's really like the relationships I have with the coaches."
Cunningham's ties to Alabama are strong, but his commitment was not a smooth process. After Nick Saban’s retirement, the Crimson Tide nearly lost its shot at pursuing him, but the relationship he developed with wide receiver coach JaMarcus Shephard played a crucial role in keeping the school in contention.
Ole Miss has also consistently encouraged him to visit their campus. Cunningham mentioned that this visit features a better opponent:
"They've been wanting me to come back and come check them out. I think this will be a better opponent they will play than the last time I was there."
Besides Ole Miss, Caleb Cunningham has visited several other Southeastern Conference programs throughout the season, including Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State.
Can Ole Miss flip Caleb Cunningham from Alabama?
Caleb Cunningham has been highly pursued in his recruitment journey since last spring. Despite his Alabama commitment in the summer, this buzz isn’t slowing down.
Cunningham has been adamant about his commitment, but Ole Miss is taking a shot at flipping him from Alabama. His continued visits and interest in other schools indicate that his recruitment may not be set in stone. The fact that Cunningham is still exploring options suggests that he is at least open to reconsidering his decision and nothing is certain until the signing day.
If Ole Miss can flip Cunningham's commitment, it will be a big recruiting win for its 2025 class. The Rebels have 17 commits in this cycle, ranking No. 23 in the nation and No. 12 in the Southeastern Conference. While the Rebels boast eight four-star commits, none of their pledges have yet reached five-star status.
Meanwhile, Caleb Cunningham is a five-star recruit, and he is also the No. 1 prospect in Mississippi as well as the nation's No. 2 wide receiver in the 2025 class.
