Three-star 2026 QB Cash Herrera commits to Kirk Ferentz’s Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes have secured another commitment for their 2026 recruiting class, Cash Herrera. The three-star quarterback from San Diego has pledged his allegiance to the program and will join four-star offensive lineman Carson Nielsen.

Herrera chose Kirk Ferentz's Iowa after his visit to Iowa City for the Iowa State game. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound, signal-caller was impressed by his experiences on campus and felt a strong connection to the Hawkeyes' football culture.

Herrera talked about his experience with On3:

“My visit for the Iowa State game was super influential in my decision. I was able to see a game day environment and the energy. As well as how my family was treated.
“I wanted to wait (to commit) originally, but after talking with my family and coaches, it felt best to do it now. I had such a great relationship, and there was no point in waiting.”

Tim Lester, Iowa's first-year offensive coordinator and a former college quarterback, was the leader while recruiting Herrera. His experience and guidance resonated with the young prospect. Herrera shared that he could easily make good relationships with everyone at Iowa.

“I committed to Iowa over UCLA because I felt most comfortable and at home. When I got to Iowa, there was a different atmosphere and family feeling than I felt anywhere else.
“As well as I connected with the staff right away and created a great relationship with them. Also, it is the best fit for me with it being a small town and heavily involved with ball and school.”

A week ago, Cash Herrera decided to go with Iowa.

Analyst Greg Biggins impressed by Cash Herrera

Cash Herrera attended the UCLA-Indiana game on Sept. 14, just a week after returning from his trip to Iowa City. He has quickly gained attention from college coaches across the country. Herrera had 10 other scholarship offers at the time of his announcement.

Herrera is ranked as the nation's No. 43 quarterback and is the No. 67 overall prospect in the state of California, according to 247Sports. Among junior quarterbacks in California, he ranks No. 12.

As per 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, Herrera's long-term potential is impressive, after observing him in action. Biggins talked about Herrera's rapid growth and development at the position.

"Herrera is a late bloomer at the quarterback position who generated a lot of positive buzz this past off-season. He's a player that the more we dug in to him, the more we liked,” Biggins wrote in the scouting report.

With Cash Herrera's commitment, the Iowa Hawkeyes have added another talented quarterback to their 2026 class.
