Four-star edge rusher Rodney Dunham is one of the rising juniors in the nation. His top eight schools are Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Duke, Notre Dame, Florida State, Georgia and Ohio State.
The 6-foot-4, 227-pound athlete attends Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He ranks No. 26 nationally, the No. 3 edge rusher in the 2026 class and the No. 4 prospect in North Carolina, per On3.
Let's see which three schools have the most potential to secure Dunham's commitment.
Top 3 schools vying for Rodney Dunham's commitment
#3 South Carolina
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, South Carolina has only a 1.9% chance of landing his commitment, but it still remains a serious contender. Dunham was in attendance during the Gamecocks' 36-33 loss to LSU on Sept. 14.
What stands out in South Carolina's pitch to Dunham is its baseball program. He is a two-sport athlete and has aspirations of playing both football and baseball at the next level. He was selected as a Rawlings Underclassmen Atlantic All-Region Preseason second-team player during his sophomore year.
South Carolina’s baseball program and its enthusiastic football environment offers a unique opportunity for Dunham to pursue both sports.
"I really loved the atmosphere at South Carolina and getting to meet with the baseball coaches," Dunham told 247 Sports. "It's always a great time when I'm down there."
South Carolina's 2026 class ranks No. 10 in the country and No. 6 in the Southeastern Conference with six committed players. The cycle features one edge rusher in four-star Keenan Britt.
#2 Notre Dame
Notre Dame has been high on Dunham and even defensive line coach Al Washington and defensive coordinator Al Golden both stopped by his school to see him in May.
"My opinion of Notre Dame is very high,” Dunham told Irish Breakdown. "I think everything the school has to offer is amazing. I could see myself potentially fitting in well as a football player and a student.
"The relationships have been really good,” he continued. "The coaching staff and I always had a good relationship. I feel that I’m one of their top prospects.”
Notre Dame has secured commitments from four-star quarterback Noah Grubbs and three-star wide receiver Dylan Faison for the 2026 class.
#1 Florida State
Florida State is the current leader in Dunham’s recruitment, holding a 33.1% chance of landing his commitment, according to On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
The Seminoles have been actively courting him and extended an offer to him after his unofficial visit to Tallahassee on April 4.
It is early but the Seminoles' 2026 class is shaping up to be one of the best. The school already has six commits in this cycle and saw a huge leap from No. 23 to No. 5 in the nation.
All six committed players are blue-chip recruits, including quarterback Brady Smigiel, athlete Efrem White, linebacker Izayia Williams, safety Tedarius Hughes, athlete Darryon Williams and safety Darryl Bell. The addition of Dunham would boost its defensive line and fill an important need for a standout edge rusher.
