“Turn the city up”: Shaq’s son Shaqir O'Neal hypes up 5-star recruit Tyran Stokes joins Notre Dame Sherman Oaks

Tyran Stokes, a five-star power forward, has committed to play for Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, and the news has been met with excitement by Shaqir O'Neal, son of Shaquille O’Neal. Notre Dame secured Stokes after he departed from Prolific Prep in California.

Stokes announced his move on Instagram on Saturday, posting a graphic of him wearing the school's colors.

Shaqir O'Neal seemed ecstatic about the news, as he commented on the post:

Tyran Stokes and AJ Dybantsa, both top-ranked prospects in their respective classes, played together at Prolific Prep in California last season.

Dybantsa, the No. 1 player in the 2025 class after reclassifying, and Stokes, leading the 2026 rankings, have decided to transfer to new schools for the upcoming season. While Dybantsa will attend Utah Prep, Stokes announced his transfer to Notre Dame.

In their recent performance at the prestigious Peach Jam prep showcase in North Augusta, South Carolina, Stokes and Dybantsa showcased their talents, combining for 46 points in a 23-point victory with their team, the Oakland Soldiers.

Stokes, standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 235 pounds, grew up a fan of UNC basketball. This connection, along with an offer from UNC coach Hubert Davis, has kept the Tar Heels in the running for his commitment.

Stokes currently holds 18 offers from notable programs, including Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, UCLA, Texas Tech, LSU and Alabama. Despite the interest, he has not yet named any finalists or provided a decision timeline.

As an eighth grader in 2022, Stokes played impressively in the Nike Peach Jam under-16 category, averaging 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 51.3% from the field. Additionally, he has represented the U.S., winning a gold medal at the 2023 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship.

Shaqir O'Neal transfers to Florida A&M for a fresh start

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal's son, Shaqir O'Neal, is set to join Florida A&M after three seasons at Texas Southern. The 6-foot-8 forward will bring two seasons of eligibility to the Rattlers, who announced his transfer on Monday.

Unlike his father, Shaqir O'Neal is more focused on perimeter play, having hit 6 of 21 3-point attempts last season while averaging 1.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game. Florida A&M, which has struggled with a 13-45 record over the past two seasons, is undergoing a rebuild under new coach Patrick Crarey II.

Shaqir O'Neal was used scarcely on the court while at Texas Southern because of the team's intensely anticipated roster, coached by Johnny Jones, who had a relationship with the O'Neal clan due to his connection with LSU. The athlete's brother, Shareef O'Neal, also swapped colleges and went to LSU from UCLA after the 2019-20 season.
