WATCH: Basketball hits Me'arah O'Neal on the head after missed layup in hilarious sequence
If Florida Gators freshman Me'arah O'Neal was in the WNBA, she could have been featured in her dad's "Shaqtin' a Fool" segment on "Inside the NBA." The Betweenxthelines YouTube channel featured her in a video during a Jordan Brand Classic practice, although she had one very particular blooper worthy of Shaquille O'Neal's segment, in the video that dropped over the weekend.
O'Neal was doing drills with her teammates when around the 10:16 mark of the video, she not only missed a layup but also got hit on her head by a ball.
Despite getting hit near the face, Me'arah continued running the drills. She did, however, show that had a massive sense of humor just like her father, as she was seen joking around with her teammates after.
Me’Arah O'Neal was part of Team Air for the Jordan Brand Classic on April 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. She was teammates with the daughter of former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas, Izela, although their team was defeated by Team Flight 111-103.
She has so far been following her Hall of Fame father's footsteps, becoming the second person in her family to be named a McDonald's All-American. She also has some championships under her belt, leading Episcopal High School in Houston to the Southwest Preparatory Conference Class 4A girls state title in 2024.
She is getting ready to make her collegiate debut with the Florida Gators in the upcoming season.
Me'arah O'Neal wanted to surpass her brother, Shareef
Me'Arah O'Neal was the subject of the "SportsCenter" documentary "Out of the Shadow," where she aimed to get out of her father's massive shadow and make a name for herself. To do that, she must first surpass her older brother, Shareef.
During his high school days, Shareef was invited to the 2018 edition of the Jordan Brand Classic. This inspired his younger sister to also be invited to the prestigious youth basketball tournament, and she did.
Her next goal was to get nominated to play in the McDonald’s All-American game, which her brother was nominated for but was not selected. Unlike Shareef, however, she was named an All-American.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard/forward played well during the McDonald’s All-American in Houston, Texas in April, scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds. However, her West team lost to the East, 74-98.
During her practices for the All-American game, Shareef was present and hilariously annoyed his sister, posting about it on social media.
Me'arah is the best basketball prospect among Shaquille O'Neal's children.
Shareef played one season at UCLA (2019-20) and then two seasons at LSU (2020-22). He scored 97 points in 37 games (no starts) in his three seasons. He played in the NBA Summer League in 2022 and then played for the now-defunct G League Ignite. He now works for Reebok, where his dad is the president of basketball for the brand.
Another brother, Shaqir O'Neal, played at Texas Southern under Johnny Jones, a former longtime LSU assistant who coached Shaquille O'Neal, the previous two seasons. He totaled 63 points (two starts) in those seasons. The 6-8 forward transferred to Florida A&M for his redshirt junior season.
