WATCH: Dwayne Johnson spotted in Apalachee High School's first game since school shooting

The Apalachee High School has gone through a lot this year. The entire state of Georgia was in shock after a mass shooting took place at the Apalachee High School on September 4, 2024. It claimed the lives of four people, including the school's assistant football head coach, Richard Aspinwall.

The high school football team played for the first time since the shooting, suggesting that the school is slowly getting back on its feet. Although the Apalachee Wildcats lost the game 48-21 to Clark County, the result was an afterthought after Dwayne Johnson made an appearance to watch the Wildcats' game.

MaxPreps shared a post on their Instagram account about Johnson's appearance during the game.

"Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in attendance as Apalachee (GA) returns to home field for the first time since school shooting," read the caption.

Johnson had earlier announced on his social media that he would be attending the game.

"Big football game tonight as the Apalachee High School Wildcats take the field in their first home game back since their school’s mass shooting about a month ago... I promised them, I would be there tonight for them - and I will," he wrote in his caption.

This loss was the Apalachee Wildcats' 25th consecutive loss as they slowly try to build themselves up after the tragedy.

Parents slam Apalachee High School's board after the tragic shooting in September

Apalachee High School is still feeling the aftereffects of the tragic shooting that took place on September 4 this year. Four people lost their lives, including two students and two teachers in the devastating incident.

However, there is still a lot of anger and unease among the parents who made requests to the school's board for more security measures. Tara Shipman, an angry parent, let out her concerns in a Barrow County School System meeting on Tuesday.

"My biggest thing is Colt Gray rode the bus with my child, and she was kind of devastated that he literally sat two seats in front of her and he carried not just a small gun, but a huge rifle with him for three hours before he executed his plan that could have just been avoided if he had a clear book bag," she said during the meeting, as per Newsweek.

The BCSS assured that they have implemented immediate safety measures upon the students' return to class on September 24. However, the parents are still vying for more security once the full-time classes commence on October 14.
