WATCH: St. John Bosco freshman QB Koa Malau'ulu had a stellar performance against state rivals at SoFi Stadium
St. John Bosco's freshman quarterback, Koa Malau'ulu, led his team to victory over state rivals Servite High School on Friday at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The young quarterback finished the game with 241 passing yards and three touchdowns, while completing 17 of 25 pass attempts.
Malau'ulu's performance helped the Braves win the game 27-17 and improve to an 8-0 record for the season. Tarek Fattal posted a video of the quarterback on his X, formerly known as Twitter, account. The video showed one of his touchdown passes earlier in the game when he connected with receiver Carson Clark for a 32-yard touchdown.
The video was proof of Koa Malau'ulu's amazing anticipation and skill to deliver a perfect deep ball to his intended target. The 6-foot-1 signal caller showed tremendous poise for someone playing only his second game as a starter for the Braves.
"All glory to God, he’s given me the opportunity to play this game and I’ve really taken it to another level with this team," the QB said after the game, as per SI. "But we need to keep our heads down and keep working."
The game was termed the Brotherhood Bowl because of the two Catholic high schools' focus on brotherhood and athletics. The game was part of SoFi Stadium’s Friday Night Lights series. It was presented by the Los Angeles Rams, who play home games at SoFi Stadium.
St. John Bosco's head coach, Jason Negro had high praise for Koa Malau'ulu after the game
The Brotherhood Bowl on Friday between the Servite Friars and the St. John Bosco Braves ended in a 10-point victory for the Braves, behind freshman quarterback, Koa Malau'ulu. The youngster finished with 241 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Malau'ulu's coach, Jason Negro, had huge praise for the freshman quarterback after the game.
"He’s mature beyond his years," Negro said in the postgame interview, as per SI. "He’s kind of unflappable. Regardless of a bad play, he really doesn’t change his demeanor, and the best thing about Koa is he’s a competitor. Trinity League is the toughest conference in the country. For him to get us three Trinity League wins is a pretty good start to his career."
The Braves' win over the Friars has kept the unbeaten start to the season intact and have now won the first eight games. The team will look to keep this streak going during the rest of the season and will face Mater Dei in the next game on October 25.
