WATCH: Star recruit jokingly writes de-commitment message during Mississippi State’s disappointing start against UMass on Saturday
Mississippi State's latest game against UMass raised alarms after a young recruit was seen typing a de-commitment message following a disappointing start to the game. Three-star cornerback Ivernos McCoy announced his commitment to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on June 24, 2024.
He was at the Bulldogs' latest home game against the UMass Minutemen on Sunday. Although the Zach Arnett-led side eventually won the game 45-20, they found themselves down by 10 points early in the game.
The Bulldogs' 2024 season hasn't gone according to plan and there is genuine fear of them losing on potential recruits from the upcoming classes.
McCoy was seen writing a decommitment post during the game, albeit as a joke, but it won't stay like that if Mississippi State keeps playing the way it has for the rest of its campaign.
Mississippi State has a record of 2-8 this season through 10 games and is last in the Southeastern Conference. McCoy chose the Bulldogs over other top programs such as Arkansas, Ole Miss, Liberty and Kentucky.
The 6-foot-1 athlete is ranked No. 603 nationally and is the 18th-best player from the state of Mississippi, as per On3.
Iverson McCoy talks about his decision to commit to Mississippi State
Iverson McCoy, a three-star cornerback from the Class of 2026, made an early commitment to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on June 24. He became the Bulldogs' third commitment from the Class of 2026.
McCoy spoke about his commitment to Mississippi State and his reasons to do so.
"It was really their coaching," the athlete said after his commitment, as per On3. "I like the way they coach and it’s like a fatherly coach ... They will show you how to correct things and tell you when you did well. I also love the fans there and they take care of their players."
The Bulldogs' Class of 2026 is currently ranked No. 16 in the country, as per 247Sports. They have landed four commitments so far, including the four-star running back Damarius Yates.
Apart from Yates and McCoy, the Bulldogs have also acquired Mississippi running back Jaeden Hill and Louisiana wide receiver Kenny Darby. They have landed a total of 16 commitments from the Class of 2025.
