Four-star defensive lineman Myron Charles flipped his commitment from Florida State to the Texas Longhorns' 2025 class on Saturday after initially committing to the Seminoles. Charles had committed to FSU on June 28 after an official visit on June 21.

He cited Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff's consistent recruiting efforts as a major factor in his decision to switch.

"It was the way they were recruiting me," Charles told 247 Sports. "They were one of my later offers, but even though I was committed to FSU, it seemed like they were doing more than every other school. They just did more, and I wasn't committed to them."

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound prospect is scheduled to make a return trip to Texas in mid-October for the Longhorns' highly anticipated matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs in Austin.

Interestingly, Charles' commitment came immediately after the No. 3 Texas defeated the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines 31-12 in Ann Arbor. With him on board, the Longhorns boast 20 commitments in their 2025 class, which ranks No. 5 nationally and No. 4 in the Southeastern Conference.

Meanwhile, Florida State is left reeling from the loss, with its 2025 class dropping from No. 12 to No. 15 in national rankings and from No. 2 to No. 3 in the SEC. The Seminoles will now focus on their remaining top targets, including Derry Norris, Jeremiah McCloud and Jarquez Carter, to bounce back from this recruiting setback.

Myron Charles' athletic profile

As a junior, Myron Charles helped Port Charlotte High School to the regional semifinals of Florida's 3S playoffs. He received offers from Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan and USC, among others.

According to Andrew Ivins, director of scouting at 247Sports, Charles displays impressive knee bend and hip flexibility. Ivins also praised his above-average body quickness, which makes him a disruptive force in the trenches. Hook’em Headlines projected him as a multi-year contributor with the potential to become a high-level starter at the collegiate level.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Myron Charles as the No. 134 overall prospect in the country, the No. 17 defensive lineman in the 2025 class and the No. 22 prospect in Florida.
