"Whoever pays that bag": Hoops fans react to No. 1 senior prospect AJ Dybantsa cutting his commitment list to BYU, Alabama, Kansas, and UNC
AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 player in the 2025 class, has narrowed his college commitment options to BYU, Alabama, Kansas and North Carolina, 247Sports reported on Wednesday. The news instantly ignited a buzz among hoops fans.
Swarming the comment section of a SLAM HS Instagram post, fans discussed where the top prospect would ultimately go at the collegiate level.
One fan implied that AJ Dybantsa's decision might hinge on financial incentives.
“Whoever pays that bag," the fan commented.
“He is not going to Bama or UNC, that's fosho,” another wrote.
One fan, a bit surprised over BYU making the final cut, posted:
“BYU in the top 4? He is definitely going.”
Meanwhile, Kansas and UNC fans showed confidence that Dybantsa would prefer their favorite teams.
“If he isn’t sliding UNC, he is sliding Kansas,” one fan said.
“He's gotta go to Kansas,” another added.
Fans couldn't rule out Alabama either, as one plea stood out:
“I know you may not see this comment, but come on, man. Your family is at Bama. Please, bro, give us a chance. Your boys are there waiting for you.”

When will AJ Dybantsa announce his college commitment?
AJ Dybantsa, who has over 29 college offers, has narrowed down his list to four options. Out of the colleges he finalized, the 17-year-old visited BYU on Oct. 11, Alabama on Sept. 27, North Carolina on Sept. 20 and Kansas on Sept. 6. BYU is ahead of the other with 69.2% chances, as per ON3.
Fans might not have to wait long to know which college the 6-foot-9 forward will pick. Previously, AJ Dybantsa had set the date for February. However, the plan seems to have changed.
“The original plan was to commit in February,” the youngster told ESPN's Paul Bincardi.
“The visits stopped in October, and we wanted to make sure we had enough time to see all the schools play. We are ahead of where we thought we would be. If I know where I want to go, why wait?”
The basketball prodigy, who signed a historic NIL deal with energy drink giant Red Bull in October, said that the announcement can come by the end of his year.
“It's probably going to be in December; I feel I will be ready by then,” Dybantsa said.
As Dybantsa nears a decision, all eyes will be on the Utah Prep standout.
