"Yeah. Obviously": BYU signee AJ Dybantsa gives confident response when asked if he's ready for the NBA
BYU Cougars signee AJ Dybantsa has said that he is ready to play in the NBA but is in no rush to play in the most popular basketball competition in the world as he wants to fully enjoy college basketball.
Dybantsa, the top high school prospect in the Class of 2025, is projected to go No. 1 in the 2026 NBA draft.
“Yeah. Obviously, you just got to learn different things," Dybantsa told Andscape in an interview Friday when asked if he's ready for the NBA. "If I were to get to a training camp, summer league, I just have to get used to that (3-point) line.”
Dybantsa said he never considered going straight to the league from high school if he were to be eligible for the league straight out of high school.
“Probably not. No. I told my mom I’m going go to college,” Dybantsa said when asked if he would have entered the NBA draft out of high school.
The Utah Prep standout also added that he is not feeling the pressure of being the potential No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA draft.
“There’s pressure, but I’m not really feeling it because, I mean, it’s not a job yet for me," Dybantsa said. "I’m still trying to have fun and like college. College supposed to be fun. Playing in March Madness, just having the excitement of playing basketball.
"(The draft) is two years away. It’s going to come quick, but, I mean, it’s still far away, so I still got time. So, I’m just not really worried about mistakes.”
AJ Dybantsa works out with NBA stars
College basketball may be Dybantsa’s immediate focus now, but he is also getting ready for the NBA, having worked out with some of the biggest stars in the league right now.
The Utah Prep small forward had a session with LA Lakers star LeBron James and San Antonio Spurs star Chris Paul in July 2023.
Dybantsa has also spent time with the likes of Kevin Durant, Paul George, Bradley Beal, Jayson Tatum and Paolo Banchero, saying he has a close relationship with them along with Paul.
