"You might need a fancy trainer…to prevent injury": Fans react to Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb's rehab at his high school gym
Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has astonished fans with his incredible rehabilitation journey. Just eight months after a severe knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, which involved a torn ACL and MCL, Chubb is pushing the limits of recovery.
In a recent video, he stunned many by squatting 540 pounds at his old high school gym in Georgia, showcasing his remarkable strength and dedication. Chubb's rehabilitation approach is unique. Despite the availability of advanced facilities, he prefers training at his former high school, Cedartown High School’s weight room.
Fans have had mixed reactions to his methods. One humorously commented:
"You might need a fancy trainer…to prevent injury."
while another joked:
"Let’s not normalize adults going back to their high school and hanging out, okay?"
Here is how other fans are expressing their reactions:
In a heartfelt piece with The Players' Tribune, Chubb said:
"I'm not a guy who likes fancy trainers and gyms that look like the club or whatever. I always go back to where it all started. The Cedartown High weight room. Membership is cheap. They got a water fountain."
As Chubb nears his season debut in a pivotal AFC North matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, excitement is building among Browns fans. With the team at a disappointing 1-5, many hope Chubb’s return will provide the much-needed spark.
Nick Chubb's story is a testament to resilience, from his days as a five-star high school recruit.
“Just trying to give back a little bit,” Chubb explained Wednesday before practice. “I am kind of a closed-off guy, so I thought it’d be good. I thought people would appreciate me opening up a little bit, especially at a time like this.”
Chubb was also a star football player in high school for the Cedartown High School team, rushing for 6,983 yards and 102 touchdowns in four years.
Played as a junior, he was the leader of the Georgia team with 2,721 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns. In his senior year, he gained 2,690 yards and scored 41 touchdowns. For his accomplishment, he became a four-star recruit along with being committed to the University of Georgia.
Nick Chubb’s emotional journey: "I thought I had played my last NFL down"
Nick Chubb is back, stronger than ever, after facing a devastating knee injury that sidelined him during the 2023 season. Despite undergoing two surgeries to repair his ACL, MCL, medial capsule and meniscus, Chubb has returned with determination and is likely to start this week against Cincinnati.
“It means a lot because people only see me on Sundays and they don’t know what it’s been like this past year,” Chubb said. “It’s been a lot of downs, a lot of hard work, a lot of stress.”
In an essay, Nick Chubb revealed that shortly after his injury, the first social media message he saw was from LeBron James, expressing support.
“Those messages meant the world to me," Chubb wrote. "Just LeBron and everybody showing me love in a really dark time. But I can’t lie to you. At that moment, I was thinking that I had probably played my last NFL down.”
Now, Nick Chubb is poised to make his long-awaited return in an AFC North clash against Cincinnati.
