Ranking the top 3 freshmen recruiting classes in college basketball right now ft. Duke Blue Devils
The early signing period is complete, and other players are committing to schools to play college basketball. However, the question is, which college has done well in recruiting high school prospects so far?
The most coveted recruits are the five-star prospects like AJ Dybantsa (uncommitted), Cameron Boozer (Duke signee) and Darryn Peterson (Kansas signee). However, most schools are projected to not land any five-stars, while others will only manage to get one. But sometimes that's enough to build a team around.
The top 3 recruiting classes in college basketball
#3, Arkansas Razorbacks
Just the name John Calipari is enough to attract some of the biggest high school stars to play college basketball, and that seems to be the case. Considered one of the greatest recruiters in college basketball, Calipari has brought his aggressive recruitment to Arkansas after his success at Kentucky, and he has netted two five-stars and a four-star.
No. 9-ranked Darius Acuff Jr. (a point guard) and No. 8 Meleek Thomas (a shooting guard) are two of the best guards in the class, and together, they are about to combine for what could be the best backcourt in college basketball next year. There is also four-star combo guard Isaiah Sealy (No. 55 by ESPN) who could take over should Thomas and Acuff be sent to the bench.
#2, Houston Cougars
The Houston Cougars are the biggest surprise of this year, snagging two five-stars, a four-star and a three-star. Their biggest nab is No. 7-ranked Chris Cenac Jr., a power forward who will bring some size to the school's guard-heavy recruiting class.
Five-star shooting guard Isiah Harwell, ranked No. 14, will be teaming up with Cenac, and they will be backed by four-star point guard Kingston Flemings (No. 21) and three-star shooting guard Bryce Jackson.
#1, Duke Blue Devils
However, the most successful recruiting class so far is Duke as it nabbed three five-stars and a four-star. The Boozer Twins highlight the Duke recruiting class, with Cameron Boozer ranked No. 2 and Cayden Boozer ranked No. 17.
Five-star small forward Shelton Henderson, ranked No. 30, will be providing help for Cameron in the frontline, as well as be another option for Cayden to pass to. Finally, four-star Nikolas Khamenia (No. 35) rounds out the Duke recruits.
The regular signing period begins in mid-April, so a lot could still happen (as four of ESPN's top six and six of ESPN's top 12 haven't put pen to paper. These three schools have stepped up already but are still trying to recruit even more.
