Top 3 landing spots for 2025 class Five-star guard Mikel Brown Jr. ft. Kentucky
Mikel Brown Jr., a highly sought-after five-star guard in the 2025 recruiting class, is gearing up for a busy few months as he evaluates his college options. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound point guard from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, has already been on official visits to Alabama, Ole Miss, and Providence, and has several more planned in the coming weeks.
Brown is scheduled to visit Indiana from September 13-15 and Kentucky from September 27-29. Schools such as Louisville and Texas have shown interest in arranging visits. His father has confirmed the upcoming Indiana and Kentucky visits with The Daily Hoosier.
While Brown may delay his college decision until winter or spring, this would allow him to assess Indiana's new backcourt lineup featuring Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle in Mike Woodson's system.
Top 3 landing spots for Mikel Brown Jr.
#3. Maryland
Maryland is making a strong push for Mikel Brown, with an official visit scheduled for later this fall. Known for developing successful guards like Kevin Huerter, who have made it to the NBA, Maryland is an appealing option for Brown.
During his stint with Overtime Elite, he has been averaging 12.9 points, 5.5 assists, and a 37.6% shooting rate from beyond the arc. Maryland's recent struggles with guard depth make Brown a critical recruit for their plans.
#2. Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana is another top contender in Brown's recruitment, with a visit scheduled for September 13-15. This trip will be Brown's first visit to Bloomington, and the Hoosiers are eager to make a lasting impression.
"Really just having the freedom to play through mistakes; that’s one of the biggest things for me," Brown told The Daily Hoosier.
"And having a coach who has 100 percent trust in you to make the right play so you play free and play your game. I think that’s big. That’s going to be big for me in watching Indiana play this season to watch how he plays with those guards."
#1. Kentucky Wildcats
With an official visit planned from September 27-29, the Wildcats have made a strong impression on Mikel Brown. Coach Mark Pope is particularly interested in adding Brown to Kentucky's roster, especially after securing commitments from other top recruits like Malachi Moreno.
Brown spoke highly of his discussions with Coach Pope, saying:
“He [Pope] said I’m one of the players who can fit his system and fit what he’s trying to accomplish in winning a championship there. He thinks I’m the best fit for his program. It was a great conversation.”
Mikel Brown described himself as a versatile point guard who can lead his team effectively, both offensively and defensively.
"I’m just a really good point guard who always wants to lead his team," Brown explained to KSR+ in June. "If you need me to make plays, I can make plays. If you need me to score, I can score."
Ranked as the No. 12 player overall and the No. 2 point guard nationally by On3, Mikel Brown has also been selected for the USA Basketball Junior National U18 Team in 2024.
