3 disappointing Washington Capitals players who are bounce-back candidates for next season feat. Pierre-Luc Dubois
The Washington Capitals made the Stanley Cup playoffs last season but were swept in the first round by the New York Rangers. The Capitals were active in free agency through trades to improve their team to make one more run at the Stanley Cup.
Although Washington made the playoffs, there were a couple of players who had disappointing seasons. Here are three players who are prime bounce-back candidates for the Capitals next season.
3 disappointing Washington Capitals players who are bounce-back candidates
#1. Pierre-Luc Dubois
The Washington Capitals made a blockbuster move by trading for Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Los Angeles Kings.
Dubois struggled last season as he recorded just 40 points in 82 games. His effort was criticized and this is likely his last chance to prove he is a good NHL player. Dubois seems motivated to play to his full skillset, and playing alongside Alex Ovechkin makes him a prime bounce-back candidate.
#2. Tom Wilson
Tom Wilson's offensive play has taken a decline as he recorded just 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points in 74 games in 2023-24. It was a step-down from the 52 points he had in 2021-22, which was the last full season he skated in.
Wilson is at his best when he is playing with a physical edge and can add some power-play points. But, Washington's power play struggled last season and was a key reason why he struggled last season.
#3. Trevor van Riemsdyk
Trevor van Riemsdyk is supposed to be one of the Washington Capitals top defensemen but he struggled to produce much offense last season.
Van Riemsdyk recorded zero goals and 14 assists, as not scoring a goal was a disappointment for the defenseman. Van Riemsdyk has all the ability to help out on offense, but can also be a solid shutdown defender. Last season, he was a -7, which was a massive step down from the +10 he was the year prior.
