3 disappointing Winnipeg Jets players who are bounce-back candidates for next season feat. Kyle Connor
The Winnipeg Jets had an overall successful regular season last year. They topped 100 points in the Pacific Division but had a disappointing end to their season after getting bounced in the first round.
Beyond the collective letdown, some players stand out due to their disappointing individual performances. But with a new season right around the corner, Winnipeg Jets fans hope these players can turn things around and get back on track.
So, here’s a look at three disappointing Winnipeg Jets players poised for a rebound season in 2024-25.
3 disappointing Winnipeg Jets players who are bounce-back candidates for 2024-25
#3: Alex Iafallo
The Winnipeg Jets had high hopes for Iafallo as he was a significant part of the return the club got from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois.
However, Iafallo didn’t move the needle much with the Jets last season. In 82 games, Iafallo notched 11 goals and 27 points. That was a drop from the 14 goals and 36 points he scored with the Kings in 2022-23.
The hope was that Iafallo could become a 20-goal scorer in Winnipeg. While Iafallo seems destined for a bottom-six role this upcoming season, there is hope that the 30-year-old can find his scoring touch and beat his career-best 17 goals in 2024-25.
#2: Gabriel Vilardi
Vilardi was another one of the players involved in the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade. In 2022-23 with the Kings, Vilardi notched 223 goals and 41 points. While Vilardi nearly matched that goal tally last season, he was limited to 47 games due to an enlarged spleen.
The illness forced Vilardi to miss about half of the season. But there is reason for optimism as Vilardi appears to have made a full recovery. If that’s the case, the Jets will have a talented scoring winger who could top 30 goals for the first time in his career.
#1: Kyle Connor
Connor is one of the Winnipeg Jets' top scorers. He’s been called upon to be an offensive force for the Jets.
After scoring 47 goals and 93 points in 2021-22, Connor’s totals dipped to 31 goals and 80 points the following year. Last season, Connor scored 34 goals but saw his point totals drop to 61. Moreover, Connor only played 65 games due to various injuries.
The Jets hope that a full, healthy year from Connor can yield results more in line with his 93-point season. The Jets will need Connor to play up to his usual standard to support Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi.
If the trio can click, the Jets will have one of the league’s best top lines.
