The Detroit Red Wings took home a big 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night at the United Center. The Red Wings came back from a 2-1 deficit to grab the win.

3 major takeaways from Detroit Red Wings preseason win over the Chicago Blackhawks
#3. The Red Wings had a strong third period
The Wings entered the third down 2-1. However, the club turned up the energy level and made the most of their six shots on goal, scoring twice. Even though the Blackhawks outshot the Wings in the third period 10-6, Detroit did not back down.
The comeback win bodes well for Detroit considering they lacked most of their regulars. While Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, and Raymond were in the lineup, the Wings played mostly with non-regulars. As such, the effort looks encouraging for a Detroit team looking to get back into the playoff pictures.
#2: Sebastian Cossa looked solid in goal
The 21-year-old goaltender Sebastian Cossa looked solid against the Blackhawks. The first-round pick from 2015 stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period. Cossa entered in relief of Ville Husso, who stopped 15 of 17 shots.
Cossa’s performance looks encouraging, as the Red Wings will need to improve their goaltending depth. While Husso figures to get the bulk of the starts, Cossa could end up getting a taste of NHL action during the regular season.
#1. Detroit played a solid all-around game
Overall, the Wings played a solid all-around game. The power play went 1-for-3, while the penalty kill was perfect at 4-for-4.
The team played a soundly structured game in front of its goaltenders, keeping high-danger chances to a minimum.
However, it’s worth pointing out the Wings registered 16 giveaways during the game. That’s a number that has to come down for Detroit. Otherwise, costly giveaways could result in the back of their net, potentially losing the team games.
Also, the Wings registered just nine blocked shots to the Blackhawks' 18. Again, this number needs to improve to give Detroit a better chance at winning games.
Nevertheless, the Wings did a great job of holding on to the lead in the final seconds, with Maatta adding an empty netter to seal the win.
