3 New York Rangers who might see a performance dip next season feat. Artemi Panarin

The New York Rangers had a fantastic season last year, capturing the Presidents' Trophy on their way to a Conference Final appearance. The Rangers are poised to build on last year’s success, potentially returning to the Stanley Cup Final since 2014.

Last year’s success largely hinged on outstanding performances from individual players. However, three players stand out as potential candidates for regression this upcoming season.

So, here’s a look at three New York Rangers who could regress in 2024–25.

3 New York Rangers who might see a performance dip next season

#3. Chris Kreider

Kreider had a wonderful season, notching 39 goals and 75 points in all 82 games. It was his third straight 30+-goal season.

However, Kreider has been on a downward trend. His career-high 52 goals in 2021-22 stand out as an outlier among his career averages. Moreover, his 75 points were the second-highest in his career, making a jump from 54 points in 2022–23.

So, New York Rangers fans shouldn’t be surprised to see a slight regression for Kreider. While he could top 30 goals for the fourth year in a row, it’s hard to imagine him returning to a 40 or 50-goal mark. Moreover, another 70-point season seems unlikely.

#2. Mika Zibanejad

Zibanejad is another New York Ranger trending downward. After 81 and 91-point seasons, Zibanejad managed 72 points last season. While still good, it is a significant decline from the year before.

At this point, Zibanejad’s overall performance may be declining. If that’s the case, the New York Rangers could see his point totals drop even further. While Zibanejad could return to the 90-point range, plenty needs to go right in order for him to regain the form he’s shown in the past.

#1. Artemi Panarin

A regression is highly likely for the Breadman. That statement is not an accusation about poor performance. But after a 120-point season, it’s difficult to envision Panarin topping that this upcoming season.

Of course, Panarin could top 100 points once again. He may even score 50 goals for the first time in his career. However, New York Rangers fans should expect a slight dip in Panarin’s performance, even if he eclipses the century mark again this season.

Then again, Panarin could fire on all cylinders with Zibanejad, allowing both players to set career highs. Again, that scenario seems somewhat unlikely.
