3 most underrated NHL goaltenders in the league in 2024 ft. Joseph Woll
Having a solid goalie in the NHL is one of the most important requirements for success. The Florida Panthers rode Sergei Bobrovsky to a Stanley Cup this past season, emphasizing the importance of that position.
However, entering the 2024-25 NHL season, there are some goalies who could be among the league's best but are flying under the radar.
3 most underrated NHL goaltenders in the league
#1 Joseph Woll, Toronto Maple Leafs
Joseph Woll will be the starting goalie for the Maple Leafs this season, and he should be one of the top goalies in the NHL.
In the playoffs last year, after replacing Ilya Samsonov, he went 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA with a .964 SV% against the Boston Bruins. It was a stellar performance from Woll, but the knock on him has been injuries. If Woll can stay healthy, he can be one of the best goalies in the NHL.
#2 Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres have been a mess at goalie. Many thought Devon Levi would be the goalie of the future. However, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen appears to have stolen the starting job.
He was also handed a hefty extension which caught fans by surprise. But last season, he had a 2.57 GAA and a .910 SV%. He was a lone bright spot for the Sabres last season, who should be competing for a playoff spot next season.
#3 Jordan Binnington, St. Louis Blues
It wasn't that long ago that the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup in 2019, backed by Jordan Binnington in net.
Since then, Binnington has had his struggles, but he is still underrated as he can very easily be one of the best goalies in the NHL.
Binnington had a great year last season as he had a 2.84 GAA and a .913 SV%, which qualifies as a great season for any goalie.
