Dallas Stars' top 3 prospects to watch out for in 2024/25 season
Last year, the Dallas Stars finished the regular season with the best record in the Central Division, before making their presence felt in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The team commenced its postseason with a win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Then, it defeated the Colorado Avalanche in the second round to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Unfortunately, the team lost a six-game series to the Edmonton Oilers, spelling the end of its Stanley Cup run. This offseason, reigning GM of the Year Jim Nill worked on bolstering the team's roster. Still, the Dallas Stars have an incredibly talented prospect pool, with several players poised to play a big role in the season ahead.
New additions Ilya Lybushkin, Matt Dumba and Casey will be playing big minutes throughout the season. However, fans should look out for several prospects, many of whom could be staples of coach Peter DeBoer's lines.
Three Dallas Stars prospects to keep an eye out for in the 2024-25 season
#1: Logan Stankoven - F
Before being drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2021, Logan Stankoven was a force to be reckoned with in the WHL. Since then, he has continued to elevate his play, logging 97 points in 48 games during the 2022-23 season, his last in the WHL.
After transferring to the AHL, Stankoven logged 57 points in 47 games while playing with the Texas Stars last season, earning him a call-up to the NHL. Over 24 regular season games with the Stars to close out the year, he has earned himself minutes in the playoffs, where he logged eight points.
This season, Stankoven is expected to be a full-fledged member of the Stars after his impressive play following his call-up.
#2: Mavrik Bourque - C
While Mavrik Bourque may not be related to Boston legend Ray Bourque or Chicago legend Rene Bourque, he has shown flashes of brilliance in the AHL. He recorded a career-high 77 points in 71 games with the Texas Stars last season.
He played just one game for the Dallas Stars last year in the regular season and one for the Stars in the playoffs. But this year, he's expected to be a staple of DeBoer's roster, likely playing on the third line alongside Mason Marchment and Matt Duchene.
#3: Lian Bichsel - D
Lian Bichsel may have a hard time cracking into the Dallas Stars' defensive lines this season, however, the defenseman is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on. So far, he has split time between the Swedish Hockey League and the AHL. However, he will likely get a chance to skate with the Dallas Stars this season.
Stankoven and Bourque received opportunities to skate with the team last season, earning spots on the team's roster for the upcoming season. Expect Bichsel to attempt to make the most of his opportunities with Dallas this season.
