Jake Allen Guentzel plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL, as of February 2025. He played varsity hockey at Hill-Murray School, where he helped his team finish as runners-up in the 2012 Minnesota State Hockey Tournament. Guentzel later committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha to advance his collegiate hockey career.

At Nebraska-Omaha, he earned spots on the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and the NCHC All-Conference Rookie Team and was a finalist for the NCHC Rookie of the Year. During his sophomore season, he led the Mavericks to their first-ever Frozen Four appearance.

Jake Guentzel began his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who selected him in the third round (No. 77) of the 2013 NHL Draft. He debuted on November 21, 2016, and made an immediate impact, scoring two goals against the New York Rangers. Guentzel played a key role in the Penguins' 2016-17 Stanley Cup-winning season, leading all postseason scorers with 13 goals and tying the rookie playoff record with 21 points. Over eight seasons with the Penguins, he became a two-time 40-goal scorer and signed a five-year contract extension in 2018.

Carolina Hurricanes

On March 7, 2024, Guentzel was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in a deal that included Ty Smith and multiple draft picks.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Guentzel was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on June 30, 2024, for a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. According to Spotrac, the following day, Guentzel signed a seven-year, $63 million contract with Tampa Bay, securing his place as a key player for the team.
