$38.5 million Canucks star Jake DeBrusk reveals his decision behind leaving Bruins
Jake DeBrusk made one of his career's toughest decisions this off-season and signed for the Vancouver Canucks after a seven-year run with the Boston Bruins. The forward performed well for the Bruins, notching 138 goals and 128 assists from the left wing. The player was in high demand from many clubs but chose to sign for the Canucks this summer on a 7-year contract worth $38.5 million.
DeBrusk talked about his decision to leave the Bruins in the latest episode of "The Cam & Strick Podcast."
"I asked for one in the summer," DeBrusk said. "Just the kind of way the team is shaping up, when it came to where I was looking where I could possible play in the lineup. And kind of how the year ended, you know I was scratched in the playoffs. I just thought it was time for a fresh start for both sides."
Thanking the city of Boston, Jake DeBrusk shared his thoughts about the city he called home for the last seven years in the NHL:
"There's nothing against the city of Boston," DeBrusk said. "I love Boston. Boston is a great city with so many things going on. People have always treated me so well there."
What does Jake DeBrusk's trade mean to both parties involved?
Losing Jake DeBrusk was bad news for the Bruins and their focus is on finding a replacement for the upcoming season. They may look to up-and-coming talents to step up next campaign, especially if finding a replacement proves difficult. Their ability to do so will be crucial, as the Bruins will enter the season as a dark horse Stanley Cup contender.
The Vancouver Canucks will be delighted as they got a player of this magnitude without the hassle of losing key draft picks. They signed him for a seven-year contract at $5.5 million per year.
The Canucks finished their regular season on top of the Pacific Division and fell short to the eventual finalists in Edmonton Oilers in round two of the playoffs. They will be hopeful that their additions this summer to the roster will help their chances of winning the Stanley Cup in the 2024-25 season.
