NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Florida Panthers at New York Rangers

"5K for murder" "Yet Soucy was suspended" - NHL fans left divided over Jacob Trouba being fined for elbowing Evan Rodrigues

NHL fans believe New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba should have been suspended for his elbow on Evan Rodrigues. In Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Trouba hit the Panthers forward with an elbow, as he was cutting across to go to the net in the offensive zone.

The NHL deemed the action deliberate, and decided to fine him $5,000 for the elbow. However, NHL fans were not pleased with the decision.

"5k for murder," one fan said.
"Hahaha wow. Yet Soucy was suspended," another fan said.

As some fans pointed out, they felt like Jacob Trouba should have been suspended for the elbow, especially due to the fact he is a repeat offender.

"I'm sure he has learned his lesson and will never lead with his elb [gets elbowed by Jacob Trouba]," a fan said.
"Accidental soucy crosscheck gets a game tho????," another fan added.

Other fans, however, felt like Trouba didn't even hit Rodrigues in the head so he shouldn't have been suspended.

"He hit his back but you guys should’ve suspended him would be better for the team," a fan said.
"5 grand for elbowing Rodrigues in the shoulder," another fan said.

Although some fans felt like Trouba hit Rodrigues in the shoulder, the vast majority of fans do think the Rangers defensemen should have been suspended.

Rangers take 2-1 series lead over Panthers

Despite Jacob Trouba taking multiple penalties in Game 3, the New York Rangers were still able to get the win over the Florida Panthers to take a 2-1 series lead.

Floria dominated the game as the Panthers had 108 shot attempts in the game compared to the Rangers' 43. Florida also had 41 shot attempts in the third period while the Rangers had 11.

"Stayed with it," center Vincent Trocheck said, via NHL.com. "Found a way to win."
"I've said it a few times already, going into overtime in the playoffs like this it's anybody's game," Trocheck said. "A lot of times it's a rinky dink shot off a pad or something like that. When we came in here after the third, it was the same mindset that we've had every time we've gone into overtime. It's work for the next one."

The Rangers will look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Panthers in Game 4 on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
