NHL: Stanley Cup Final-Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers

"Another day another flight": Connor McDavid wary of monstrous task ahead despite Edmonton Oilers' Game 5 win

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is cautious about the daunting challenge ahead, even though the Oilers have managed to bring the series back to Alberta for Game 6.

On Tuesday, the Oilers claimed a solid 5-3 away win over the Florida Panthers in Game 5. Despite trailing the series 3-0 at one point, the Oilers maintained their hope and boosted confidence following a thumping 8-1 win at home last week.

They not only avoided elimination and a sweep but also narrowed the series to 3-2 in the Stanley Cup. In the post-game media interactions, Connor McDavid acknowledged that the Oilers still have ground to cover as they trail the Panthers 3-2 in the series.

The Oilers captain described the win as only an earned opportunity for another day of play and another fight. McDavid is happy about the series being dragged back to Edmonton and assured they will be prepared for Game 6:

"I love playing in the playoffs. I love playing with this group. It's been a fun ride and we're glad it's going to go one more day. But that's all we've earned here: Another day, another flight. We'll be ready to go in Edmonton on Friday," he said (via Chris Johnson of The Athletic).

Connor McDavid notched up four points on the night and became the first player in NHL playoff history simce Wayne Gretzky in 1985 to do so in back-to-back games. He has racked up 42 points through eight goals and 34 assists in 23 games this post-season.

In the previous game, McDavid broke Wayne Gretzky's record for the most playoff assists (32). He is now on track to break Gretzky's record for most playoff points in a single campaign. Overall, McDavid has garnered 174 points in 99 games, including the regular season.

Defenseman Evan Bouchard had a significant impact on the game by garnering three points for the team. Forwards Connor Brown and Corey Perry also netted one goal apiece on the night. Meanwhile, Stuart Skinner delivered yet another stellar performance, making 30 saves with a .909 SV%.

On the Panthers side, Matthew Tkachuk and Evan Rodrigues contributed a goal and an assist each. Sergei Bobrovsky had another lopsided outing, conceding four goals on 19 shots.

Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers returns to Rogers Place on Friday.
