Arber Xhekaj's mom Simona grateful for over $8000 fan contribution to charity supported by her son

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj's mother, Simona, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the significant contribution of over $8,000 to a charity supported by her son.

Arber Xhekaj has dedicated his off-ice-time to charitable efforts, particularly for The Angel Project Canada. HFTV Sports organized a fundraiser with an initial goal of $3,386.

The campaign not only met this target but also surpassed a second goal of $7,200, eventually raising over $8,200 for The Angle Project. Xhekaj's mother, Simona, took to X to express her gratitude to all the donors who contributed to the charity.

"Turning negative situation to miracles for our patients. Kind, generous and caring hearts are everywhere. Thank you on behalf all voiceless souls to all, who donated and supported this."

The Angel Project has been making a difference for over a decade by providing funding for medical, therapy and communication devices for patients in long-term care facilities.

The charity also offers ongoing support for personal hygiene, comfort items and Christmas gifts. Operating with minimal overhead, The Angel Project prides itself on being strictly volunteer-driven, ensuring that donations directly benefit those in need.

Arber Xhekaj avoids suspension following controversial game vs Leafs

The preseason matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs last week sparked major controversy and discussion over the weekend.

The game took a troubling turn when Habs forward Patrik Laine suffered an injury due to a knee-on-knee collision with Maple Leafs' Cedric Pare, an incident that drew heavy criticism.

In response to Laine's exit from the contest, tension escalated, leading to two fights involving Arber Xhekaj and Juraj Slafkovsky against the Leafs' Pare and Marshall Rifai. Following these events, the NHL took action by issuing its first fine of the season to defenseman Xhekaj, who avoided a suspension.

Initially penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct in the game, the Habs defenseman was subsequently fined $3,385, the maximum amount permissible under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Meanwhile, the situation surrounding Laine's injury continues to develop, with reports indicating that the severity of the injury is still being assessed. According to reports, Laine could face a lengthy recovery period, potentially sidelining him for four to six months.
