Avs' Mikko Rantanen makes his thoughts on the 2-minute boarding penalty call extremely clear
Colorado Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen opened up about the penalty decision against him during the 3-2 overtime victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday.
Rantanen was hit with a two-minute minor penalty for boarding Michael McCarron during the third period.
He shared his thoughts on the decision:
"No, I don't think (it was a penalty). I think it was just, I don't know. Maybe because he stayed down, they had to review it or something. I don't know it was. They didn't call anything at the start, and then they gave us a two, which was little bit weird to me."
Nevertheless, the penalty decision against Mikko Rantanen didn't cost the Avs much, as the Predators failed to capitalize on the man advantage. With the goal on the night, Rantanen took his tally to nine for the season.
He has accumulated 21 points through nine goals and 12 assists in 16 games, making him the club's third-leading scorer, after Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar for the club this season.
Mikko Rantanen scores as the Avs downed Predators in OT
On Monday, the Colorado Avalanche beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in overtime at the Ball Arena, marking their second consecutive win.
Luke Evangelista opened the scoring for the Predators, giving them the lead just 1:45 into the first period. In the second period, Devon Toews tied the game for the Avalanche with a snapshot at 4:32.
Mikko Rantanen put the home team in front at 11:37 before the teams headed into the third period. Colton Sissons made it 2-2 for the Predators in the third, forcing overtime.
Samuel Girard, who scored the game-winner for the Colorado Avalanche 2:43 into overtime, said (via NHL.com):
"It's always nice to have a breakaway. Got a chance to score as well,” Girard said. “That was kind of like a read. I saw that [Skjei was] kind of like falling down.”
The Colorado Avalanche (8-8-0) are fourth in the Central Division with 16 points after as many games. With points shared against the Predators, the Avs moved to 14th place in the standings.
The Avs host the LA Kings on Wednesday. The puck at Ball Arena drops at 10 p.m. ET.
