"Congratulations, Travis, on winning the Heisman Trophy. Everyone at the Avalanche is super proud of you. Been rooting for you for the past couple of years, so way to go."
The 21-year-old won the prestigious award that's voted on by a diverse voting panel of 928 electors, comprised of past Heisman winners, media representatives, fans, and other stakeholders. Hunter said at a news conference held shortly after the award ceremony:
"It's definitely special, you know, it means a lot to me and my family," Hunter added, "I'm thankful for my mother, she took me out of a bad area, I was always getting in trouble. Now look where I am, it's crazy."
Hunter, who has undoubtedly become a top contender for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft, expressed gratitude to his coach and former NFL star Deion Sanders aka "Coach Prime." Sanders offered advice to the aspiring players:
"Don't let anyone tell you what you can't do. Keep grounded, stay focused and go get it."
