"Biggest mush of all time": Ryan Whitney trolls Paul Bissonnette's "biggest lock of the century" after Oilers' Game 5 win
Ryan Whitney slammed his "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast buddy Paul Bissonnette for labeling Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final as the "biggest lock of the century" when talking about the Edmonton Oilers.
In a video ahead of Game 5 on Tuesday, Bissonnette brought up last year's Stanley Cup Final, where the Vegas Golden Knights took it in five games. He drew similarities between this year's final to the previous one and reckoned the Florida Panthers would be lifting the Cup in five games:
"You guys have this series in a chokehold right now. I think that this series ends in five at home, very similar to Vegas, where we said it's the biggest lock of the century as far as hammering down a bet," Bissonnette said.
"From my understanding, a lot of these guys are going through this experience for the first time for Florida Game 4 and a potential close-out game. All your family's flying in, you're worrying about tickets, and all these different distractions. So, like I said, last year, you saw Vegas pull it off. I just think way too many weapons," he continued.
After a tough 8-1 loss in Game 4, Bissonnette noted that the Panthers would use that defeat as motivation to come back stronger in the game:
"They're going to come home refocused way less distractions, and I think they're going to give them a beat. Down or Edmonton. Yeah, they unleashed a fury, dummying them with eight goals, but you don't think that's gonna put a little more pep in Florida's steps. Let's come back and f*n beat the wheels off these motherf**s," Bissonnette added.
Whitney playfully called out Bissonnette for being overly confident and implied that his predictions were so off-base that it ended up jinxing the outcome for the Panthers on Tuesday:
"Doesn’t matter if he’s on or off the booze this guy is the biggest mush of all time," Whitney said on X/Twitter.
The Edmonton Oilers came back from a 3-0 series deficit to trail the Panthers 3-2 after another thumping 5-3 victory in Game 5. The series will now trek back to Edmonton for Game 6 at Rogers Place on Friday.
Paul Bissonnette reacts to Connor McDavid's performance in Game 5
Connor McDavid had another impressive game in the series. He notched up four points in the matchup and became the first player in NHL history to achieve four-point outings in back-to-back playoff games.
Bissonnette reacted to McDavid's performance on the night on X:
"McJesus completely silences the crowd. Sucked the life right out of the building."
With 42 points in the post-season so far, the Oilers captain is on track to break Wayne Gretzky's record of 47 points in a single campaign.
Can the Oilers win Game 6 on home ice and force a Game 7 despite being down 3-0 earlier in the series?
