"Boston College Days": Jane Gaudreau reminisces throwback pictures of sons Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau
On Friday, Jane Gaudreau, the mother of late NHL players Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau posted throwback photos on Instagram in memory of her sons. The Gaudreau brothers tragically died in a cycling accident on August 29 when a suspected drunk driver struck them.
Boston College honored their former hockey players Tony Voce, Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau with a touching ceremony before its game against Maine. The families of the Gaudreau brothers and Voce joined in a ceremonial puck drop before the game.
On the occasion, Jane reminisced the memory of her sons and posted a series of pictures from their time playing for the Boston College Eagles on her Instagram stories. In the caption of the first picture, she wrote:
“❤️Boston College Days❤️”
To remember the players, rally towels with their initials were placed on every seat for fans, and their initials were displayed on the boards in front of the BC bench. Former coach Jerry York, campus ministry leader Father Tony Penna and current coach Greg Brown shared memories of the players in a pre-game video tribute.
Friends and former teammates of the honorees, including Florida Panthers GM Brett Peterson and BC alumni Michael Sit and Chris Calnan, were present to show their support. During warm-ups, Eagles players wore warm-up jerseys labeled 'Voce 13,' 'Gaudreau 13' and 'Gaudreau 21.'
These jerseys were later auctioned, with proceeds supporting the Tony Voce Foundation and an adaptive playground project selected by the Gaudreau family.
Johnny Gaudreau’s sister Katie shares adorable throwback moment of her brother and neice
Earlier this week, Johnny Gaudreau’s sister Katie shared a special post for Johnny’s two-year-old daughter, Noa. Katie posted a series of photos and videos of Noa resuming her dance classes with the New Jersey All Star Dance team in Pedricktown.
In the Instagram post, Noa is seen enjoying her dance practice, and Katie affectionately captioned it:
“My heart & soul. Aunt Katie’s girls take on ASD."
Johnny’s wife, Meredith, later shared Katie’s post on her Instagram stories, expressing her pride in Noa. Meredith also reshared a photo Katie posted showing Johnny helping Noa fix her hair before a past dance class, captioned:
“We love you Daddy.”
Katie originally called Johnny the best girl dad in the caption:
“Best dance dad. & the painted fingernails (best girl dad).”
The Gaudreau family has been grieving since Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew breathed their last in August. Through these moments, they continue to honor their memories while the hockey community has come together to show its support.
