"Bound for a stinker": Biz hails Toronto Maple Leafs as "Kings of Ontario" despite 3-0 shutout loss to Ottawa Senators
Former NHLer and analyst Paul Bissonnette called the Toronto Maple Leafs the "Kings of Ontario," despite their latest loss to the Ottawa Senators.
On Tuesday night, the Senators achieved a convincing 3-0 shutout victory in the first "Battle of Ontario" of the season, showcasing complete dominance and keeping the Leafs at bay from mounting a comeback throughout the 60 minutes.
The win was particularly impressive for the Senators as it came at Scotiabank Arena, the Leafs' home ice. Despite the loss, Bissonnette took to X/Twitter to express his support for the Maple Leafs:
"Congrats to the Senators on a well played game against the Leafs. Leafs were 3-0 without Matthews and were bound for a stinker. We’re still the kings of Ontario. Trust the process. #LeafsForever."
The Senators also snapped the Leafs' three-game winning streak in the process and moved to fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 16 points. Toronto faces the Washington Capitals (10-4-0) next on Wednesday at Capital One Arena.
Toronto Maple Leafs HC on defeat to Senators
After the game, Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube expressed disappointment in the team's performance:
"Not a good game for us,” Berube said via NHL.com. “There wasn’t much good to talk about in the game overall. We got outskated, they wanted it more than us. That’s the bottom line.”
Linus Ullmark had a standout performance for Ottawa in goal. He made 27 saves and earned his ninth career shutout. Notably, it was his first shutout with the Senators since they acquired him in a trade from the Boston Bruins.
"It’s always nice getting a win, it doesn’t matter which team it is,” Ullmark said. “We haven’t really played our best on the road this year (3-5-0) except for last game against Boston (a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday), so it’s good we backed it up tonight.
"Very mature throughout the game. I thought we did a great job of doing the things that we talked about prior to the game, sticking with the game plan," he added.
Artem Zum accumulated two points for the Sens, while Michael Amadio, Josh Norris and Tim Stutzle were the three scorers on the night. The Senators host the Philadelphia Flyers (6-8-2) next on Thursday.
